Been to Vegas lately?

One place in particular that has WONDERFUL breakfast is Blueberry Hill. It's a family owned small chain of restaurants that has a location just NE of the strip.

I will vouch for that! I always go a few blocks "out" and find fantastic food, at fantastic prices. Heading back in October, and will include Blueberry Hill for sure.

I am seeing rooms for $39, and 3rd night is free, so....WOW!

Odd, I didn't think the regulars of this board would also be Vegas regulars.
I went to Vegas once. I have no desire to return.

See generally Bill Bryson's description in chapter 24 of The Lost Continent (1989).

I enjoy playing blackjack at the local casinos occasionally but have only been to Vegas once. DW had a girls reunion there a few years back and she let me tag along. If I wasn't sleeping or eating I was at the single deck blackjack table. Won enough to pay for the whole trip - RT air, 3 nights hotel, meals and DW's shopping spree plus more. Best run of luck I've ever had. No real desire to go back because I know they'll even the score!

I'd avoid going to the New York New York casino; there are a lot of protests going on there because they are adding a mosque.

(rim shot)

Vegas trip is this weekend. I finally booked rooms at the Las Vegas Hilton at the convention centre which is where we stayed last year. Friday nights is $65 and Sat is $75 including taxes. Overall not a bad price, most of these other casinos that send out emails every week with the $38 specials are only for midweek. So LV Hilton does seem to be the best deal on the strip, or should I say just off strip.

Will report back with the $ amount of my winnings next week.

Good attitude and have fun.

Just remember that the slogan
"what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"
was written long before the age of Facebook.

Not only that but everybody's got a video camera now.

Laughlin AFB is in Vegas and you could theoretically watch fighter jets landing and taking off.

Nellis AFB is the one in Vegas--but you knew that! If there's a Red Flag (or "Flag-series") exercise in town, airplane buffs can get an eyeful during the departures and recoveries of scores of airplanes of all sizes and types. The Thunderbirds are based at Nellis, and there's a small museum at their squadron building that is open to the public.

I second deserat's other suggestions for nearby fun things to do.

Actually the new slogan as we were told by the flight attendant on Southwest is

"what happens in Vegas will actually appear on You Tube in a couple of hours so be careful".

Had a fabulous time, totally got taken to the cleaner, won nada, nor did any of the other girls that I went with that. That said we plan on having our annual trip in Vegas again next year.

One thing that does have me puzzled, and maybe it is a misobservation, why do guys tend to let their friends get so drunk and not look out for them? We had one guy at our table who was removed by security as he was totally legless, couldn't work out why they were not dealing him enough cards. Now for us girls, when one of our party was getting a bit too inebriated we immediately moved in to make sure that she was ok, kept an eye on her and made sure that nothing happened to her.

Cause the stories and YouTube videos are much better when the guy is passed out with with underwear on his head and vomit beside him, then if we try and save him. :nonono:

Guys on trips to Vegas with their friends are an odd bunch. They all smoke because they are not allowed to at home. I felt like saying to them if you want to smoke grow a pair and do it at home. Honestly, seems like a lot of guys had the mentality of teenage boys being let off the leash. They dare each other to do stupid things like betting blind, having shots and acting like twats.

And here I thought you'd pick up some unique insights from a Vegas trip...

Sounds like our yearly houseboat excursion...

Posting from LV this very moment. I think I'll try to get out early and find a sports bar for the Rays-Yankees game. Then I hope to drink myself into a stupor, smoke cigars, get sick, and tell my friends, "I love you, man."

Either that or I'll get back to the hotel by 9 pm and go to bed.

From what I have heard, people are still going to Vegas, but they aren't spending money. They take advantage of the relatively cheap rooms, food and entertainment, but aren't shopping and gambling as much. The rooms rates are a factor of season and events. Summer is cheap, but spring and fall are more expensive. Winter, especially right before the holidays is really cheap. Of course a big convention, sports event, and the like can drive up prices quick. Also, mid-week is usually way cheaper and unlike many places everything is still open.

I think people are going to Vegas but they aren't spending what they used to. We went to the breakfast buffet on Sat morning, part of the room deal was free breakfast. 15 months ago when we were there the lineup to get in was quite long. This time we walked in and got a seat straight away. Even playing in the casinos, the tables seemed emptier and the slots certainly did not have a bum on every seat like they have in the past. It did feel as if there was a bit of a crisis going on there.

Rich, just remember what you do will be on You Tube tomorrow so be careful.

That is a classy way to act. It has prevented more than one woman from coming to a lot of grief.

Men sometimes also do this, but I think one thing that at times restrains us is a desire to avoid being punched or having other ugly behavior directed at us. Perhaps also the experience of university with very lax attitudes toward extreme drunkeness has desensitized us to what is really going on.

They dare each other to do stupid things like betting blind, having shots and acting like twats.

I thought you just told us that this is not the way twats act? :)
