To those hearty soles who survive Florida summers, my hat is off to you!
To mere mortals, South Florida was uninhabitable until the advent of air conditioning. Better transportation also allowed the "snowbird" lifestyle.
Some of my earliest memories are family vacations in the (un-air-conditioned) station wagon, camping out in a tent, on our way to visit family in Florida... in August! No interest in doing anything like that again.
I'm hunkering down here for another Maine winter. It's not so bad now that I don't have to get up at 4 AM to shovel the driveway, then drive 25 miles through a storm to get to w*rk. Ask me again in February
