I haven’t read the entire thread, but I’m a fan of using a smartphone for GPS. Many years ago, I got rid of specialized devices (gps, camera) and bought a high quality smartphone. They’re all good now and for the most part, work well for everything.
I’ll add that I wish I had Apple CarPlay support in my car. I’ve used this in the last few rental cars I had and it worked great. It tempts me to buy a new car.
I imagine the Google version works just as well.
