Good News--No Bad Side effects to Covid Vaccine

I guess I'm the poster child for oddball vaccine side effects. After the first Pfizer dose three weeks ago my hands and feet went numb for several hours. Then I got my second dose on Tuesday. At first I didn't notice any side effects, no numbness this time, not even a sore arm. I woke up feeling fine Wednesday, even went out and mowed the grass and worked in the yard.

Then last night I was hit was serious bouts of diarrhea. I hadn't eaten anything that would have upset my stomach, so I can only assume it's related to the vaccine. A little research online confirmed diarrhea is a less common side effect of the vaccine. Yay for me... :) Feeling better today, just tired and a little weak. Glad to be done with it.

...her son and his wife were both incapacitated after having had their first jab. Her son actually passed out in the bathroom. Very surprised as they are both extremely fit, regularly run marathons and extreme distances, over 100 miles. Both early 40s, AZ vaccine.

It's known that vaccines are not as effective in overweight people. So maybe in extremely fit people it's overly effective, i.e. their 'uptake' is so good they feel the effects more.

My second will be June 2nd, next Tuesday. I hope I don't have any side effects after the second shot.

Just to throw an additional monkey wrench into this, I think vasovagal syncope can also be fairly random. I've had it exactly twice in my life. Here are the situations, so draw your own conclusions.

First time was over 50 years ago. I had received the Typhus vaccine while at school (AFROTC requirement) and I keeled over about two hours later on the subway going home. It was a typical NYC experience -- the other passengers just carefully stepped around me and within a couple of minutes I came out of it and people were kind enough to offer me a seat.

Second time was a little over two years ago. We were in Norway and had taken the train from Oslo to Bergen (a delightfully scenic and relaxing ride). Then we checked in at the port, walked around downtown Bergen for a couple of hours, boarded a ship, and settled into our cabin. Went to the buffet dinner, chose our food, sat down and began to eat. Within a couple of minutes I keeled over and the next thing I knew I was flat on my back on the floor with DW and three ship's officers looking down at me. The only thing out of the ordinary beforehand was that I had a rather fierce and mysterious stomachache as I was sitting down at the table.

So I can sort of understand about a vaccination causing a delayed reaction, as in my earlier experience. But the second time I was having a wonderful, relaxing, pleasant day and the syncope came right out of the blue. I know what it was because the Norwegian doctor at the Bergen clinic I went to specifically called it a vasovagal syncope. He said that it's precipitated by a great many things, and is not that well understood, but there was no need for me to be concerned about it. As he described it, there was such a strong call for blood to my digestive tract that it was taken away from my brain and that caused the faint. Putting me flat on the floor fixed the problem.

Braumeister, your second episode sounds a bit like ones that I experienced about 7 years ago. I had a couple of cases where I passed out after breakfast or out of the blue (once while travelling from China). One time when it happened at home after breakfast, my DW called 911 and I went through about a week of tests in the hospital which finally traced it to Heart Block 2 where electrical signals werent being sent from one chamber to another so the heart just takes a rest and stops beating for 4 or 5 seconds. I had a pacemaker installed and all is good now. I used to have sleep apnea due to heart stoppage, but that is also gone now. Watch for this if it happens again. It is an easy and simple procedure to eliminate a potentially serious risk.

We just had the 2nd Moderna vaccines this week.
Nothing but a slightly sore arm for DH, 1 day and it was gone.
For me it was like a flu[emoji3061] for the day after each jab, sore arm will likely stay for some days more.
Glad that we could get the vaccine.
A vacation is planned for 2 weeks after.[emoji3]

I had the 12 hour flu effect after my shots.

I got my shot about 9:00 AM. About 12 hours after the shot I started to feel tired, very tired. I went to bed. When I woke the next day my body was sore as though I had been pummeled by a heavy weight fighter. By noon, the soreness was gone and I felt fine the rest of the day. No more problems.

It was and is a small price to pay to be able to mix and mingle with family, friends, and strangers in strange restaurants while traveling.

There are so many ways to crunch the data. Now I want to know how many long distance runners had bad side effects to the vaccines. And how many sedentary people, etc.

SIL is a runner and had Covid a few months ago. And vaccine about a month ago. She's now trying to get back into running shape, but it isn't happening. Seems to have a cardiovascular issue. No stamina or endurance. She's going to go to a cardiologist to see what the issue is.

Sorry to hear that. Is she still fairly young? And was her Covid mild? There seem to be a lot of people who are fairly young/healthy and had mild cases, yet their symptoms remain for a long time...

The British Medical Journal had an article on this in November.

https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4470

Young, low risk patients with ongoing symptoms of covid-19 had signs of damage to multiple organs four months after initially being infected, a preprint study has suggested.

Initial data from 201 patients suggest that almost 70% had impairments in one or more organs four months after their initial symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The results emerged as the NHS announced plans to establish a network of more than 40 long covid specialist clinics across England this month to help patients with long term symptoms of infection.

Thanks - she is 62. Had a mild case of Covid. She’s been running for 40 years, on and off. No problem getting back into running after a few months off - until now.

Well, 62 isn't exactly young, but she's been active for years, so she must have been very fit before she came down with COVID. I'm sure she's very disappointed that she can't run. I hope she makes a full recovery very soon.

There are plenty of 30 year old athletic types with Long Covid. Heart problems are appearing a year after the initial infections in some cases.

The British Long Covid clinics are largely a waste of money. Most focus on graded exercise and CBT, the same BS they have unsuccessfully tried to treat the ME/C.F.S. patients.

More and more, this is looking like a persistent virus. It is not easily found in blood or other fluids, as it is buried in the tissues. Lots of discussion about how replication competent, but antigen material is turning up in biopsies from colonoscopies fairly often.

Four of us had Pfizer. No side effects after first shot. Some after shot #2.

One person had no side effects whatsoever. Another had a sore arm for a day...not a biggie.

The third has aching legs and arms. Disappeared after a day.

I had aching legs, joints , arms, back for two days. Did not eat or sleep well for two days. The symptoms disappeared as quickly as they appeared.

Everyone who had side effects had them occur the day after receiving the shot.
