My family members only were able to get a positive test by swabbing their throats, nasal swabs were negative.

When I went in, I was instructed to go 1" deep into the nostril, 5 circle in each. This was the long q-tip test. I tested positive, with pretty mild symptoms.

New research in Nova Scotia has health officials in that province recommending people swab both their nose and throat for rapid COVID-19 testing.A study from Nova Scotia Health's microbiology team indicates that a combination of a nose and throat swab provides more accurate results compared with a nose swab alone.
In an interview Friday, Dr. Glenn Patriquin, a medial microbiologist with the administrative authority, said the impetus for the study was the idea rumoured publicly that the Omicron variant of novel coronavirus prefers the throat to the nose as an entry point.
