Any free Turbo tax downloads?

Two years ago I downloaded a free H&R block taxcut and did my returns...

Last year I got a free TurboTax and it imported all my data from the prior year even though it was a different program...

This year (so far), I downloaded TaxAct that someone here posted...

However, it does not import anything... so I would like to see if someone here knows of a place where you can download a free TurboTax? I would even go with Taxcut again if I could get it...

State Farm has free TurboTax for their banking customers. It used to be free for their insurance customers, but it doesn't look like that works this year.

FREE is not always simple. TaxAct will do it free AND if you do the Q&A format it may even find deductions you may have overlooked (no it will not get a lower tax than you are entitled to, contrary to the implications on some of the other Tax ads I have seen running this year). Sometimes it can be good to start from scratch.

I must be missing something for the TurboTax users at least. The only "free" versions I know of are the online versions which can be had for free several ways (although you pay when/if you eFile as I understand it). It's probably completely safe, but I'd rather have my tax information on my PC vs flying across the world wide web. That peace of mind is worth the cost of TurboTax Basic for me, this year I got it for under $25. YMMV...

Besides, I don't know why the IRS doesn't provide the service or at least free eFiling since it presumably improves their productivity. (Never mind, I know why...)

Last year you could access a website and download a free Turbo Tax program and I think it was the Premium version) . That was the only year that I recall them doing that. This year that same program is $54+ at Walyworld.

There is a lot of info that can be loaded from last year that Turbo Tax did from the H&R program... SS#, address, etc. etc... so you do not have to type in stuff that did not change.

I have seen the free online version... but last year as cashflo said you could download TurboTax to your computer and not do it online... I do not want to do it online either....

It was the Deluxe version... at least that is the one I found...

That's where I will go tomorrow. You will have to do your state return by hand, but usually state returns are quite easy.

CNET story said it's 2008 Standard version, federal only, 1 e-file.

That's where I will go tomorrow. You will have to do your state return by hand, but usually state returns are quite easy.

I bought a copy today. It is the 2008 version for $1, as advertised.
