The flow of water out of Moen kitchen faucet slowed mysteriously; a quick query of YouTube suggested clogged screens ... there are two. A little disassembly and some vinegar should do the trick and of course it didn't. A call to Moen brought a new sprayer head in a few days and a quick remove and replace.. Great expectations were once again crushed - now it was almost a trickle.

It occurred to me the problem was in the body of the faucet, where the cold and hot water mix. Backs to the wall the answer was obvious. Low water pressure (a pathetic trickle) at the kitchen sink is a kind of sick torture. $180 at lowes brought us a new fangled taller and very cool model. Now the question was who was the installer be? My adult daughter and wife said they would do it. I said ok first step after I used one of those grabber sticks to get the assorted cleaning solutions out from under the sink was turn the water off. My daughter quickly said "the value is stuck" funny but when I lowered my metal knee body down into the two outdoor furniture cushions and squeezed under the sink. I didn't find it all that stuck. Of course once down there I became the installer.. I beckoned "basin wrench" and it appeared in my hand - 20 minutes later the old one was out and the new fancy one was in.

Once again I have established my manly dominance over all things mechanical - bum knees and all. Yes I'd be feeling pretty smug except I keep thinking about that stuck valve. You don't think I was manipulated do you:confused:

Your wife & daughter have read "Tom Sawyer". Have you?

You've been had!

Just Lord it over them for a week or 2. Let them snicker behind your back. LOL.

Or go back in there and turn the valve halfway off, then a week later another turn. Hey, hon? I think we got a bum faucet. Musta knocked some debris loose

Yup.
But you got to show the household plumbing that you're still in charge - bionic knee and all.

Hit a nerve...
Five years ago, our Moan (ahem) faucet slowed to a trickle. Undid what I could... no quick fix, so off to Lowes for a new faucet. Hmmm... should be a half hour job... duh... The down tubes of the new faucet were 3 inches shorter than the Moen faucet. What to do to fill the 3 inch space between the uptubes and the downtubes?
There ARE limits!
Frustration...
I hit the faucet with my monkey wrench and "Voila"... the faucet started working again, and works to this day, albeit with a dent on the side.

Anyone wanna buy a brand new in the package kitchen faucet... real cheap?

Just for future reference: if the screen etc. is clear you can turn off the valves, remove hoses at the valves, and shoot compressed air back through them from the faucet (cold and hot opened and blown through separately. Has cured several for me, what with being a landlord, cheap, AND lazy.

My Moen was rusted internally beyond repair. About 10 yo. I called and they sent me a new unit, no questions or need for receipts. Shocked I was.

About three times throughout the years I have had to avail myself of the free Moen replacement cartridges for faucets.

Walking out of the store with it without paying always feels great.

Glad it ended well. When I read that the valve was stuck, I thought you were going to site a litany of things that went wrong - a comedy of murphy's law. Thankfully, it went well and you're back in business. Good for you.

this is why I favor the old style Delta faucets.

sure you have to buy a rebuild kit every so often

but the last time his Moen faucet had problems, my FIL (aircraft mechanic for 30+ years) had to spend an hour on the phone w/ Moen to troubleshoot/figure out how to get it all back together.

All it usually is is a worn 1/4" rubber gasket and maybe a tiny screen. They're easy to replace--and from above standing up--in about 2 minutes.

I never understand why people call in specialists to do very easy household jobs.
