We are about 200 miles NE from the center at this time and just started to get the first rain bands about 10am. Wind is only 10 to 15mph. The local forecast is calling for about 6 to 8 inches of rain over the next few days in our area and that's okay with me since we need it. It's the folks 100 to 150 miles south and southwest of us that probably don't want anymore rain.

You can thank me for not losing your power. I spent about three hours yesterday getting my old Hurricane Ike era generator running again. If I hadn't done that, I'm sure we would have lost power. [emoji41]

Hey, you can't take all the credit! I got our generator out for a test run yesterday after not using it for more than a year (yeah, I know, exercise, exercise....). Started on the first pull!

Just a normal wet Saturday so far. At the time of this post, radar shows Harvey center is further NW than I think the NWS predicted. San Antonio is getting rain from Harvey right now, but it is not really raining in the SW part of Houston like yesterday. E and NE of Houston though it is pouring rain.

It does not appear to be raining in Corpus Christi and the southern part of Mustang Island. I do expect Port Aransas, Rockport, and maybe even Port O'Connor to be severely damaged, so I am interested in eyewitness reports from those places.

So maybe there is some opportunity for the places that got rain yesterday to have it all flow away and drain well?

So glad that our Houstonians are doing better than expected!

The east side of the cone has shifted west a little, and it has not even rained here in New Orleans so far today. Our forecast is much nicer now and no longer includes any winds at all from Harvey.

In an hour or so, Houston will be in a major rainless band between two rain bands. But storm center is no longer moving north and seems to have drifted a little south and a little west.

San Antonio will get more rain than I expected it to get. And rivers and creeks in the triangle made of San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Houston will fill up and some will flood, so don't let your guard down.

As long as you are not expecting to have power, you might be OK. I would guess that any locals with damaged homes would fill up hotels and motels in the area.

Live Webcam at Seagull condos does not appear to be available.

Also I expect Mustang Island State Park (camping) to be closed for many weeks.

Let's hope that the Treasure Island mini-golf had no damage. I played 144 holes of golf there a few weeks ago. It has two of my favorite mini-golf courses.

I haven't heard of any deaths yet, so there is a hope that no one lost their life at the coast when it came inland.

The worst is yet to come for the areas that weren't directly hit by the hurricane. Houston is a horrible city for flooding at the drop of a hat.

I had an appointment on Monday to go give blood/plasma (husband and myself) and hoping we're still going to be able to go. Not expecting it to be so bad in my area, but they may close the donation centers to prevent their workers from being caught out in dangerous areas, so I'll be checking in on the morning of.

Anyone that can donate tho please consider trying this coming week if things calm down, as I imagine they'll have a need for it even more than usual as donations likely will have bottomed out this week due to the weather emergency and folks that need blood/platelets/plasma will still be in need.

But that's not really so unusual; we have had about 32" of rain since June 1st. It has been a rainy summer in south Louisiana.

It came so close to skimming our coast, but rainfall in my city was less than 1/2 an inch the day before it passed. And rainbands as it passed by didn't quite reach. They were expecting 40mph winds but only got 20mph which is typical without a hurricane. It helps to be on the west side of a hurricane.

My sister who lives a mile away has been without power since 9 AM.... I have heard 2 transformers blow out somewhere in my neighborhood, but so far we are good...


OK... while typing sister called and said her electricity is back on... her neighbor had just pulled out his generator and said by the time he got it running it should be on.... sister said yep, that is what happened...

OK... to add.... it had not been raining for a few hours but just started to rain hard seconds ago....

The problem will not be today, but in a day or two when the rains continue to fall... we were a bit dry so were able to take the first wave pretty easily... now we brace for 2, 3, 4 etc...

They have shown a number of houses that have been damaged by tornadoes.... not widespread, but if it was your house you got devastated...

Just saw the prediction for the Buffalo Bayou in Houston for the next few days. It is predicted to rise above flood level and be higher that it was during storm Allison.

I'm ~100 miles north of the Woodlands and it's been raining steady here since about 10 this morning. So after 8 hours, we've only have a 1.5'' accumulation so nothing heavy. Just sitting out on the porch with the dog having a few cold ones and watching the rain. Seems the dog likes cold beer too!

Just saw the prediction for the Buffalo Bayou in Houston for the next few days. It is predicted to rise above flood level and be higher that it was during storm Allison.

I'm sure you know that it doesn't take a hurricane or even a tropical storm to create floods in Houston. With a nickname like "bayou city", you should expect floods.

I'm ~100 miles north of the Woodlands and it's been raining steady here since about 10 this morning. So after 8 hours, we've only have a 1.5'' accumulation so nothing heavy. Just sitting out on the porch with the dog having a few cold ones and watching the rain. Seems the dog likes cold beer too!

We are now getting bursts of heavy rain about 1/2 hour apart. Seems like we are on the fringes of the northerly heading storms. Plus, a tornado warning was just issued for several local counties, including Montgomery where we are.

Yes, been here 25 years and seen lots of flooding. The prediction is 6' over the banks for the Buffalo Bayou.
