SSA New benefit Amount Notification

....Yippee!! I will be getting $77/month more, which is more than 2% since my Medicare Part B went back down to the lowest amount also. Amazon, look out! :ROFLMAO:

I'm glad to hear your Medicare finally went back down. As I recall, you were only in the higher bracket for one year. Did they deduct for the higher income for two years? Any idea if they will pay you back for the extra year of higher deductions?

.

I was wondering about this myself. Others have received the SS notice, but I haven't.

Since I'm already paying the $134/mo Medicare B premium, I should get the entire 2% COLA in my January payment.

And that brings up another point. Although Medicare B premiums remained at the same $134 [for lower income people], because so many more people will be paying this $134/mo amount in 2018, the total amount of $134/mo premiums going to Medicare will be a huge increase in 2018. Plus some higher income earners will also be paying more in premiums in 2018. In other words, Medicare will be getting a huge amount of money in 2018, much more than it received in 2017. So hopefully they won't be looking for more money in 2019 [dare to dream !]

I don't feel they owe me anything, because they only raised my Medicare Part B for one year (2017). I complained about it on the forum so much, that it probably seemed longer to those reading my posts. :D

I was only in the higher income bracket for 2015. That was due to mistakenly selling too many funds that year (while buying my Dream Home in cash).

And YES - - I am SO GLAD it finally went back down! At first I thought the change was permanent because I didn't know any better.

Thanks, W2R. That helps. All my money is in retirement accounts and I have been thinking about making one large withdrawal from those retirement funds to provide some accessible money. The idea would be to withdraw enough to put me close to the upper limit of the 25% bracket and pay all the higher fees and taxes for that one year. It sounds like your Medicare costs only went up for one year (in 2017?) and then back down so there was no additional deductions after that one year.

That's right.

Well, in my case I also got kicked out of the "hold harmless" bunch with just $104.90 Medicare Part B payments; I will now be paying $134/month for Medicare Part B. But from what I understand, that happened to everybody because of the SS COLA this time.

2015: $104.90 Part B, but unexpectedly high income (one time event)
2016: $104.90 Part B, income low again
2017: $187.50 Part B, Income still low
2018: $134.00 Part B, probably income still low

You can sign in to your account at https://secure.ssa.gov and see the new benefit amount and Medicare deduction. I just did that this morning.

Thanks for that. I fwd it to DW but SSA does not know her! Wonder who is sending a bunch of cash to our checking acct each month?

Waiting game in force.

Yes, I believe that several of us have not received anything yet. I still have not received any info in the mail from SS lately. But, I got what I needed online.

I haven't received anything in the mail, which I blame partially on our (uh, shall we say?) less than optimal local mail service, and partially on the seasonal deluge of mail that they have to deliver.

However, it doesn't matter. I got mine by logging in on the social security website as braumeister suggested above.[...]

.

The only problem I have with signing up online with SS. SS has used that as an excuse not to send out paper statements to those who have online accounts. So far that doesn't apply [yet] to the annual "award" letter.

I finally received mine yesterday! Even though I am probably the last one in the country to get it, still, I take it back about my local postal service.

I will be getting the same amount that they specified online, but it's always nice to have a piece of paper confirming that.

Mine came yesterday. The same as I calculated. I can't get in to the online account.

No mail notification here yet.
But with our mail carrier nothing surprises me.

They must have just sent out a big batch of them. I got mine yesterday (matched what I had seen online/calculated myself).

I received mine yesterday.

Since I am already paying the $134 Medicare B premium, my increase will be the entire 2%.

Mine arrived today. Whoo Hoo, every month the increase is $37.80! I have no idea what we're going to do with this windfall.

Hopefully soon.

If it is any consolation, I did notice that logging in to the SS website online (as you so kindly suggested!) gave me the exact same information.

I'm getting $77/month more than last year (partly due to the COLA, and partly due to reduction in my Medicare costs due to income) so I"m happy. Not sure what I'll do with it but I'm sure I'll think of something.

Strangely enough, it was just delivered a few minutes ago. :)
Same as the online version, but it's nice to not be left out.

Got mine today, will have exactly the same check. Increase due to COLA offset by increase in Medicare Part B, so same net.
