What’s your favorite city to travel to?

Based on number of times I've been there I'd say Edinburgh, although I could easily be persuaded to return to Vienna, Budapest, Reykjavik or London. Returning to Edinburgh in September.

+1 for Edinburgh. One of my favorite cities.

In the US, San Francisco is my favorite city to visit - perfect for a long weekend.

So much love for Europe here. Not that I don't, but so many other places to go where there is a lot to see, do, and eat. I guess my list is more of a favorite trips:

Hanoi and surrounding area: Hanio, Sapa, Halong Bay etc.
Bangkok and Chiang Mai
Amman and surrounding area: Amman, Petra, Dead Sea, Jerash
Tel-Aviv and surrounding area: Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, Maktesh Ramon, etc
Dubai and Abu Dhabi
New Zealand: the whole thing
Taiwan: Taipei and surrounding area
Tanzania/Kenya: Safari

As everyone else has said, Edinburgh is amazing. Especially if you catch it on Sunny days. It is certainly one of my favorites. If you get more typical weather, you might not like it as much.

For overseas cities, it would be a virtual tie between:
  • London, England
  • Brugge (Bruges) Belgium
  • Munich Germany
Second choices:
  • Brussels, Belgium
  • Bamberg, Germany
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Taipei, Taiwan
  • Edinburgh, Scotland

My third level list would be very long.

Kyoto.

I love Japan, and Tokyo is fun, but Kyoto feels like going back in time, but to a very different time than anywhere else. Even the tourist traps don't feel touristy, at least the first few times.

And the food is amazing too.

Ljubljana, Slovenia. It's like Prague but cheaper, smaller, and not drowning in tourists. It took 4 days before I bumped into a fellow American (and that was actually out of town while we were touring some incredibly impressive caves). However most people speak at least some English.

I'd love to go back and spend a few weeks there, and will probably do exactly that at some point.

Buenos Aires is another city that I hope to revisit at some point. It's like a less crowded version of Paris (that also serves some darn good empanadas and cut-with-a-fork steaks for very little $$).

Neither city felt like a city built for tourists. A bit more authentic feel.

Going to Edinburgh and Vienna for the first time in September. Any suggestions for things to do and places to see?

Regarding favorite cities to visit, I'm partial to Seattle. I've only ever been to one other country, England, and we spent all our time in the Cotswolds, which was wonderful.

San Diego, Vancouver, Key West, Melbourne Aus. Savannah is pretty cool. New Orleans.

Haven't been to Europe yet, but planning to very soon. Boston, New York City in the US. Jamaica and Vancouver.

Edinburgh has popped up on quite a few lists. What was it about the town that you like?

We were there last fall. While it was nice we were not overwhelmed by it.

Just curious if you have a favorite city or country to travel to and if you go there often. The wife and I love Hong Kong, it’s our favorite place to visit, I’ve only taken my wife there 1 time but I’ve been there 3 times, we want to go again maybe this summer when we’ll be going back to Thailand.

I traveled a lot throughout the world before I retired as our company sold products world wide and now just as often after retirement. We travel to Europe at least once per year and between the east and west coasts several times per year. Our favorite cities by continent are:

North America:

San Francisco
Montreal, Canada
Vancouver, Canada
New York, New York
West Palm Beach, Florida
Miami, Florida

Europe:

Nice France
Stresa Italy
Amsterdam Holland
London England
Paris France
Copenhagen Denmark
Montreux Switzerland
Rome Italy
Istanbul Turkey

Asia:

Singapore (sorry I liked it better than Hong Kong and Bangkok Thailand)
Kyoto Japan

I like almost all of the European cities and Asian cities we visited. If I have to pick one that I like enough to live in for a while, I would pick Hong Kong in the winter (too hot there in the summer). Hopefully will visit South America, Australia and New Zealand soon.

Really hard to pick. Been to London dozens of times, Florence, Rome, Munich, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Vienna, Ho Chi Minh City, Melbourne, Really like Berlin.

Didn’t care much for Moscow, Tokyo, Taipei, Prague

Pretty personal stuff. Besides the actual city it might depend on time of year, weather, state of mind, chance encounters, who you are travelling with, what restaurants you went to, etc.

What was your weather like? If you catch it in good weather, it is great. But that is a rare thing.

Prague, Paris, London, Stockholm, Austria, Switzerland

Honolulu, Arkansas in general is a beautiful state, San Diego, Texas Hill Country, Wash DC

Been there 3 times for a total of 8 weeks. My favorite city was Dublin (sorry Meadbh but we find the night life in Dublin to be much better than Cork).

I don’t give two hoots about nightlife. Different priorities.

 Welcome to our world....or a portion thereof......we care nothing for restaurants/nightlife......we just want to see and experience things.

I was there in July and had a perfect week. However my companion had spent the last winter there. He had a different opinion. 😁

I like London. Haven't been to San Francisco in 50 years, but it would be interesting.

I would not go back to Cape town, or Boston.

Big cities do nothing for me. In fact when I take a road trip, I might go a little out of the way to avoid one although I don't avoid them all. I enjoy destinations like Sedona AZ, Santa Fe NM, Vail CO, Savannah GA, etc...

I would like to visit San Francisco one day. So there are exceptions.

Many cities are on the list. Capetown, London, Hong Kong, Toronto, Amsterdam, Stockholm. Hoping soon to add Prague and Sydney.
