Any expert Las Vegas travelers?

I am thinking of purchasing airline tickets and booking hotel now for a trip end of April. Flights are at a great price. Not sure if I am getting the best hotel deals.

One of the reasons for going to Vegas is to see some shows. Would you advise buying tickets to shows now or waiting until we get there? I am thinking of now just to ensure we get seats, but I am guessing I pay more that way? What site do you use to book?

Any other Vegas recommendations are welcome.

Make sure to check if your hotel charges for parking. It used to be free but some are charging up to $24/day.

The major acts all sell out ahead of time. If you don't book in advance you will be seeing some low end musical impersonation stuff that nobody else wanted to see.

I like buying tickets ahead. On the other hand a lot of people buy from Tickets 4 Tonight which has booths on every block. I prefer to buy good seats so would rather buy in advance. Also Tickets 4 Tonight has tons of fees. Same for vegas.com and other consolidator sites; big fees. For hotels I would stay as close to the center of strip as you can. in my mind the center is somewhere around Bellgio/Ceasars/Ballys/etc.... It's so nice to walk everywhere. What type of shows do you like? We have been to just about every one I think. LasVegasAdvisor.com has good hotel links sometimes.

I remember watching La Femme with a gorgeous and exotic blonde on my arm. Some of that relationship was heartbreak and some of it was a dumpster fire, but that night was steamy and beautiful.

We bought the tickets beforehand. It was awhile ago, but I’d recommend that just to confirm your plans. The only reason I can imagine you’d want to buy tickets later is if you want to be spontaneous.

We were thinking of seeing:
1. Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil at Mandalay Bay
2. Mat Franco Magic at the LINQ
3. Terry Fator at the Mirage
Are those all good choices?

Should I just try and book these tickets from the hotel venue website?

We were thinking of staying 2 nights at the Mirage and 2 nights at the MGM. We wanted to spend a little time at the pools so chose these 2. Good choices?

I’m sure it’s sacrilege to say. But I’ve been to a couple different Cirque de Soleil shows in Vegas. IMO...overrated.

I go two or three times a year but I can't help you with who has the best shows nor can I help with hotel or travel prices. I don't go to the shows and all my hotel and travel is free. Well okay, maybe indirectly it's not free.:)

I prefer center strip hotels and casinos. Caesars Towers is my favorite but the Mirage and Belliago are my second choices and they are all center strip. The MGM and Paris seem to be nice too (but I've never stayed in their rooms) just played in their casinos. All have numerous and excellent restaurants. Stay away from the older downtown casinos unless you want to go and see the lightshow one evening. (I assume they still have that) Room service usually sucks everywhere, just go out to eat.

If you are a gambler, they all have the same games for the most part and the odds are all the same everywhere regardless of what they tell you. So play where you like the environment and feel you get the best service.

Just saw this post. If you want to check out the pools, you really should check out Caesars pools at least once. Usually best from noon to late afternoon or early evening. (Note, don't bring the kids.)

The 5 or 6 shows that we’ve seen in Las Vegas were purchased ahead of time. As for pools - Tao Beach at the Venetian may or may not be one for op to check out - younger toptional crowd.

Tix 4 tonight has a website which you could look at a few times before you go to see what’s usually available. We stayed at the Mirage a couple of weeks ago, and there were people trying to sell Terry Fator tickets every time we walked through the lobby, so that’s one you should be able to get a discount on. I’ve bought Cirque tix at the discount booths several times with no problem, but have no interest in ONE, so don’t know if that particular show might be harder to get than some of their others. Do check on which nights each show is dark so you can plan accordingly.

You wanna talk overrated? We saw the Blue Man Group last year. It was Ok, but glad we got the tickets for free.

Most hotels have a "Resort Fee" which adds $30 a night to your hotel bill.

In keeping with my theme of being the frugal traveler, we stayed at Harrahs the last couple of times that we visited Las Vegas. We were able to get a relatively good deal on one of the consolidators websites.

Also, I might recommend Bally's primarily because of location.

Buy weekend and major show tickets in advance.

I

I would also highly recommend Penn & Teller's show. One of the most enjoyable evenings you'll spend anywhere.

We saw the Michael Jackson ONE show. It was the best event we have ever seen in Vegas hands down. Got chills at times.

Hmmm ... we want to see 1 magic show and were debating whether to see Matt Franco or Penn & Teller.

We recently watched few shows in Vegas. Paranormal (mind reading show) turned out to be one of our best experiences. No bad seats in the theater. We had the best bang for our buck. If you have any opportunity please go to this show. Tickets are not expensive either

Saw Blue Man also. Yes, it was overrated. I paid for it and regretted it.

My assumption is the magic shows, mind reading shows, and comedy shows are better than the experiential shows like Blue Man and Cirque.

I'm with the crowd that says if you really want to see a show, book ahead. Otherwise, check out the Tix4Tonight booths when you are down there.

We've had some luck sourcing some promo codes from smartervegas.com.

Don't miss going to downtown Vegas.
Sign up and use your players cards if you're going to be gaming. You may get stuff like $5 free play, relatively easy to hit first reward goal, a few dollars discount on some restaurants/buffets, discount hotel codes for future visits, etc.
It doesn't hurt to politely ask (vs using the "$20 trick") if you can get complimentary upgrade to room like with a view of the strip (and tip after if you get it).

We were there last nov and saw the Mentalist (JUST WOW) Nice small theater and was like how the he11 did he do that and cirque du soleil zumanity. Highly recommend both

If he’s still there and you like to laugh, go see Carrot Top. I’m serious. We saw him him two years ago at the suggestion of a LV native. Can’t remember ever laughing so hard for so long before or since. Terry Fator? We couldn’t wait for the show to end, but most everybody else in the audience seemed to love it. Figure Fator is rated PG, Carrot Top closer to R!

It's weird because Carrot Top just gets killed as a comedian, but when I last saw him years ago on TV he was really funny.

Elvis. Don't believe the rumors.

I would have loved to see Elvis in vegas in his prime. Saw him twice in Detroit, but at the later stages of his career. Even then he was still something.
