Free TurboTax Premier from Fidelity

To get the free TT Premier download link, we have to log in with DH credentials since he is first named on the account. That's the only quirk we're run into over the past few years.

I'm sure someone will add or subtract from this as needed... But IIRC, $20 off is the standard offer for all Fidelity customers, along with free Premier for active traders who meet certain criteria. Then, there is the unpublished "fuzzy" subset of PCG that get free Premier as well. I don't think we've ever determined why it's fuzzy, except it appears that your rep has to take some action to proactively "add" you to the list of PCG recipients. It does not appear to be automatic.

I was PCG for many years but never interacted with my rep and never got the TT offer until about 4 years ago. That was the year we had several meetings by phone and lots of other email communication. The subject of TT never came up. But after that, I started getting the TT free offer, and have every year since.

Thanks for the clarification. See not crazy. :D

Am surprised though that members of this forum who receive TT for free have at least 120+ trades yearly.

Me too, but I buy a lot of bonds over 70 plus just with those alone and I average into some ETF's and before you know it, I guess you're there.

There may be some active traders here. But most of us are not getting TT because we have 120+ trades. We're getting it because we are PCG. I make less than 5 trades per year on average. And I get TT every year. It's not a perk that is published anywhere on the Fidelity website, to my knowledge. So the chart that COcheesehead posted is NOT the definitive chart of who gets what. And as I posted before, it's not automatic just because you meet the PCG criteria. Read what I wrote in post #27.

So what you're saying is that you're special.

No - I think its OR, not AND. We're not active traders. We don't do 120 trades a year.

Looking at that chart, it only offers the online version, not the download version. Perhaps they are getting quite a bit cheaper in what they give people?

They always say online. But when you click through the links you are also offered the download version.

Not sure that is correct, as if one has 25k portfolio only, then they would qualify for the free TT even though they are not qualified for PCG status?

Not at all. I'm just trying to clear up some incorrect information being posted by others.

So it appears that the rules then are not hard and fast and one must actively pursue receiving the free TT if they don't meet the "official" rules posted by @Cocheesehead.

If its any consolation, the forum over at Fidelity is usually equally confused. People get in arguments over where the link is or isn't. TurboTax could be the most controversial subject for Fido customers.

I have called the guy assigned to me under PCG the last three years to get a TT refund. Since he's really a customer retention specialist he's always come through.
He's a nice guy, has given me some good advice, and has reminded me to stick my plan when I procrastinated or deviated.

The offer just popped up on my summary page for free fed and state. The link doesn’t work yet, but at least there is progress.

Thanks. I checked and my screen reads “Get TurboTax Online Premier Free”. I clicked, was sent to a TT page that has multiple offers. The Premier version states “$0.00” but then reads “start for free pay only when you file”.

This is what my offer looks like.

Same here. The link doesn.t work yet, however it has only been up for a short time. Earlier this morning it wasn't there at all.

I have no idea what the criteria are for this perk. I got demoted from the Private Client Group although my balances had gone up. My rep did call me to advise I'd been switched to the active trader platform whatever that is. I'm not what you would call an active trader. I sensed that he had to cull the herd a little and did mention I appeared to be DIY'er heavy into that CD "thing".

The link is live now. Word to the wise, click the link and start your return, even just a bit. Last year they took the link down after awhile, but if you start, the offer is locked in.

I'm trying to navigate this. It has me log in to the Turbotax site and is now asking some basic questions. Is this an online version?

I just logged into Fidelity, link to free Turbotax Premier up and worked. You do not have to use the online version, select download products and the free credit applies. One free state and 5 free fed filings as well...

OK... at first, I got the broken link. Then it worked and I got the same online offer that others posted (pay when you file??). Just ignore all that. At the top of the page, pull down on "Products & Pricing" and select "CD/Download products." From there, you have the familiar free download of Premier including 5 free federal e-files.

There might be a simpler way, but that's how I found the download/desktop version, in case that helps anyone.

Anyway, I have the download version for free, ran the updates, and now it's importing my info from last year.
