Gym closings due to the pandemic have caused me to take to the streets. Looking for a good running app. Would like to track distance, speed, calories burned, daily progress, etc. Which ones are good? Any recommendations?

The Workouts app on the Apple Watch does a great job of this. Not just for running, but most kinds of workouts.

I've used MapMyRun in the past. (Knees won't let me run anymore) But it did what you asked. At the time it didn't require all my information, not sure about now.

Mapmywalk has been a great tool.

I've been using runtastic for years. It's a misleading name for an app. You can set "walking" in the sport type. It tracks the obvious mileage, time, speed, elevation up and down and works when there is no cell phone coverage (gps enabled). It also list calories burned and water loss - as always these should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

We use Fitbit Ionic watches to track all activity. It syncs with the Fitbit App on our phones. Phones tend to be little bulky (at least for me) to carry during exercise. All email, calls, texts are also routed to the watch. Since getting the watch, I rarely keep my phone on me but keep it nearby.

We used to use Mapmyrun and Mapmyride for tracking runs and bike rides, but the Fitbit watch and App does that now.

I use a Garmin on my bike along with their rear radar which I like a lot.

I used walktracker before I got my iWatch and liked it. Seemed to suck down battery, though. Now I use the watch features.

I use a Garmin watch for tracking activity and everyday use. In addition to the features requested I would also suggest including a heart rate monitor. In my experience many of the activity watches that have a built in heart rate monitor don't work well (very inconsistent) with activities like jogging/running, look for one that also allows you to connect a chest strap heart rate monitor, most of the Garmin watches have that option. I believe some phones also allow a connection to a chest strap (ANT+) heart rate monitor.

We use the Samsung equivalent of a fit bit which integrates nicely into the health app on our Galaxy phones.

I like Runkeeper on my iPhone. Selections for walking, running, cycling, skating and many more activities including wheelchair.

I've been using Runtastic for years. But on my new Samsung Galaxy 10 it's been replaced. It's now called Adidas Running, but it's the same thing.

As an aside, I haven't run anywhere in years. It does a fine job tracking my walking, hiking, and kayaking.

How do you like the Garmin? I have a very cheap knock off, about $24, and I find it works great when I am on a walk or hike, but around home it generates a huge number of phantom steps.

Garmin here. I like it a lot. Was looking for something that could do both running and golf. It does these very well, and so much more.

Garmin watch gets uploaded to Garmin connect, then sent to Strava.

I have the Vivoactive 3 and like it. I did find the built in heart rate monitor inconsistent when doing activities like jogging so I just pair it with an old chest strap I had sitting around. It also has a golf app that I use all the time, shows distances to front/middle/back of green and comes with a scorecard. In addition it will show a summary of your golf 'activity' showing total time, moving time, distance, pace, calories burned, heart rate (max/avg), etc.
