Your top three timeless favorite instrumental-only romantic/soft music

May I suggest Theme from A Summer Place by Percy Faith?

Kool and the Gang - Summer Madness:

Brothers Johnson - Tomorrow:

Caldera - Seraphim:

(There 3 others I like better, but they might be consider more mid-tempo, perhaps up tempo to some, and have a few words/sayings so are not "pure" instrumentals... :))

Oh boy those music pieces were on the same tape which I considered my favorites music of all when I was in elementary school many many years ago. I still remember the sadness when my AIWA portal cassette player broke.

Funny you should ask. Earlier this year, I wanted to find an instrumental song that was popular on the radio when I was growing up. However, I didn't know the name and without lyrics it seemed hopeless. I tried googling “Instrumental hits of the ‘50s, ’60’s, ‘70s, and ‘80s” but couldn’t find it. Then, a couple of months ago on a whim I tried searching within Spotify. I walked through an oldies instrumental hits playlist and BINGO! I found it!

So, lovely people, here’s Love’s Theme from the one-hit wonders known as The Love Unlimited Orchestra.

And, who can forget the theme song from Love Story?

Almost any of those famous John Barry movie themes would qualified. I can hardly say I actually like one better than another. All seemed to be tied for first place. Here's two non John Barry pieces that fit the theme of the thread.

1) A unique feature of this one is it sounds good no matter what instrument it's played on.

2) Here's a one-off piece that was actually on the charts in the 1960's. Solid, modern, adult contemporary music and it wasn't by The Ventures.

Excellent choices, socca!

This is another one that I enjoy. "Ashokan Farewell"

When I first saw this thread, that was exactly the first song I thought of, I mean Barry White and all, but I didn’t know what it was called. Good find!

Only 3 pieces? My favorites are many, but my most long-lasting one is "Spanish Romance", a popular piece for guitar.

I loved this back in my teenage years, but had to wait until the availability of the Internet to be able to search and learn that this 19th century piece was popularized by being the theme music in the 1952 French movie Jeux Interdits (Forbidden Games).

Naturally, I wanted to see this movie, and finally happened to have the chance on an Air France flight last year. The movie tells a moving story of a very young war-orphaned girl.

Here's another rendition, which is perhaps even better.

Another one that comes to mind is Voyage à Venise (Voyage to Venice) by French pianist Richard Clayderman.

1. "Mantovani/Hollywood" (My mother had this vinyl LP when I was a wee kid, and I have loved this particular Mantovani album ever since. Not much of his other stuff, mostly just this LP. In fact, during my 10-minute magic act for my junior high school talent show circa 1968, I used snippets from this record. Oh, and I won that talent show.):

2. Anything by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.
3. Anything by Esquivel.

And my third, also from a movie -- "The Deer Hunter".

The "Born Free" piece is another one of my childhood favorite. I always had an image of lions running around in my head whenever I heard this piece. Memory is a strange thing. I don't remember where I learn about the song or if there was a movie with the song in it. I only remember it is something about the lions and Africa.

The big instrumental hits by Glen Miller I have always liked.
Moonlight Serenade or In the Mood.

You could throw a little Satchmo in there too, I suppose. But then you'd miss out on his incredible voice.

Those are classic (more so Serenade if you want romantic). I remember discovering the double album Glenn Miller - A Memorial (now available on CD) in my parents’ collection. I realized my parents were actually pretty cool and not from Mars as I’d previously thought. [emoji4]
