I like to watch comedians, mostly on Youtube.
I'll start with 4 favorites, a top pick is impossible for me.
Dave Chappell, Bill Burr, Norm MacDonald and Jimmy Carr.

Bob Newhart. George Carlin. Lenny Bruce. Jerry Seinfeld. (and sorry, Bill Cosby). All but Seinfeld were from listening to them on their albums.

Buddy Hackett

Elayne Boosler

Shelley Berman

Steven Wright

George Carlin

Probably George Carlin and Bill Cosby from the past and more recently Bill Engvale....

Edit: Add Justin Wilson (a long time ago)

Jerry Clower….wow, I thought I was the only one who knew of him.

Robbin Williams.

Rodney Dangerfield.

My neighbor when he has too much to drink.

Seinfeld. Rock. Murphy. Chappelle. Pryor. Carlin. Leary. R White.

My husband has old Jerry Clower albums. I’d never heard of him, but my husband thinks he’s great.

You can tell the age of the crowd from these answers....I mean this is not a bad thing.

Op here, I'll throw in a second for Steven Wright, Rodney Dangerfield and a shout out to Groucho.

In addition to some of the names already listed:
Mitch Hedberg

Aristophanes....boy, he'd break me up...never laughed so hard.....those were the days..

George Carlin; Rodney Dangerfield; Kathleen Madigan.; John Mulaney; Craig Ferguson; Lewis Black; Patton Oswalt; DL Hughley.

Steve Martin, Rodney Dangerfield. Currently Jim Gaffigan.

Bill Engvall is probably my favorite comedian in recent years.

Russell Peters is probably a close second.

Jim Gaffigan is also good.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of comedians rely on profanities for most of their acts. I'm no prude, but that's just not funny to me. I don't mind the occasional curse word, but if that's their entire act I lose interest quickly. People like Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy are two prime examples. If they're in a setting that prevents them from swearing (a movie or TV show), they can be hilarious. But without a little control, they're just offensive. Swearing is so pervasive that I rarely watch stand up comedy shows anymore.

I wish there were more "clean" comedians. The best comedians find humor in every day life situations. Insults and vulgar language are not funny (IMHO).

Going a little farther back, Robin Williams (of course), and Stephen Wright were a couple of my favorites.

I agree completely with the profanity thing.
I am not even close to a prude myself, in fact a well placed f bomb ca be very effective in every day life but these guys use way too much to the point of not being funny and a turn off.
Prefer more nuanced and well thought out humor.
so:
Jerry Seinfeld
Richard Lewis
Robin Williams
Letterman
Leno
Gaffigan

etc.

I once went to a comedy night at a local bar. This was a long time ago but I still remember one comedian putting a little spin on this.
He gets up there and starts: How about the effin idiot effin people effn around with effin things etc.
He then says a woman comes up to him and says could you please stop the profanity and he looks at her and says pro(effin) what?
At least I thought it was funny. My wife was ready to leave.

Jerry Stiller comes to mind as one of those guys that made me laugh before a word came out of his mouth.
