Good News--No Bad Side effects to Covid Vaccine

Great feedback guys. Seems life Moderna is better based on the feedback here, with less side effects.

However, I'm going to wait for the No. 1 vaccine .. Novavax - 96% effective on the original strain, 86% effective on the UK strain and the safest vaccine on this planet with no adverse side effects. It's data covers multiple strains. It may be May or June, but I'll wait.

^ did you get 2nd dose in the same arm as the first? I heard that side effects of 2nd dose are worse if you get both doses in the same arm.
I purposely got my second dose in the same arm - the right. I sleep on the left and didn't want it to become sore and disrupt my sleeping position. It didn't matter because I only got mild soreness both times. The second was no worse than the first. Mine was Moderna.

Thanks for sharing this, as I must get both doses in the same arm due to my risk of lymphedema in my left arm. I've been a little concerned about that.

The Pfizer vaccine is such a small amount of fluid injected that DH didn’t feel it at all either time.

DH didn’t want to bother with changing arms. We’ll see how he does.

Last night after receiving my 2nd Moderna shot I had a slight sore arm. No worse this morning and no other reactions at all. After my first shot I played golf that afternoon and my arm the next morning was sore as heck. Perhaps too much exercise. And fwiw I took the 2nd shot in the opposite arm. So a good experience from both overall.

DH and I had our second Moderna vaccines 2 days ago. Yesterday I had a sore arm (about the same as for the first vaccine) and DH had a slight headache but we are back to normal today. Counting ourselves we know 12 people who had their second vaccines in the last week or so, a combination of Moderna and Pfizer. All around age 70. Most of us had very mild side effects--sore arm, headache, tiredness. Three people had chills and ran a fever for a day or so. Interesting to me is that the 3 people who had the fever/chills are all small people who weigh under 150 pounds (2 women and 1 man). None of us bigger people ran a fever. I wonder if there is any correlation between patient size and severity of side effects from the vaccine? Maybe I can get a government grant to study this.

DH and I both got our Pfizer vaccines on Friday at a local Albertsons and neither of us had side effects other than sore arms. Mine kicked in as soon as an hour after the vaccine, in spite of exercising the arm off and on the rest of the day. DH only noticed his arm soreness overnight and just a slight soreness.

Unfortunately, we don't have our 2nd shot appointments scheduled yet--they're all booked. We'll keep trying.

I just don't understand these places that are giving the first shot and not giving an appointment for the second shot. That does not make sense to me. That is not the way it is working here in NC. When you get your first shot you are guaranteed a second shot and given an appointment.

DH was pretty fatigued the day after his second Pfizer dose. We'll see how he does today.

My wife got her 2nd Moderna shot this past week on Tuesday at work. She went to school (she's a teacher) on Wednesday but felt miserable most of the day and was sore and fatigued by the time she got home. She was chilled all that night. She took a sick day on Thursday to try to recuperate. By the afternoon she was feeling better and was able to eat dinner. She was back in school on Friday.

Have had both my Moderna vaccines with no deleterious effects that I know of. Have had both my Moderna vaccines with no deleterious effects that I know of. Hmmm. You're making me think twice about going in for Moderna dose 2.

+1
Makes no sense to me either. But then there are many things about the distribution of vaccine and/or recommendations that run counter to my strong sense for self preservation.

Cheers!

The available slots were all gone by the time we checked in. I'm looking each day, and I'll call them if something doesn't open up soon. My understanding is they want you to go back to the same location.

SIL & BIL were at another pharmacy of the same chain a few days earlier and they were able to get their 2nd appointments right there before they left.

When I got my vaccine they handed me a appointment for the second. It is run by the military so not surprised it was organized and efficient.

mum and dad (74/76) got their second last week. knocked mum out for about a day, but other than that they were both totally normal 48 hours later.

First Moderna shot - arm pain, fatigue
Second Moderna shot - after 12 hours after getting shot it hit me. Feeling cold, very weak, constant headaches, low grade fever. I slept for about 20 hours under several blankets. I forced myself to drink lots of fluids and eat. Tylenol and Nyquil were stuff I took.

It has been a couple of days since my second Moderna vaccine and it went like the first. There was no pain or other reactions except for a slight pain at the injection site kind of like a bruise. I was bracing for a couple of bad days but nothing. Whew! Dodged that one. It was the same for my wife. Now we wait a couple of weeks and hope for the best. We will still continue wearing masks and social distancing for ourselves and others but the pressure will be much less.

Cheers1

I almost considered not posting this because I don't want to give anyone pause, but for awareness. And despite this I will still get mine the first second I can.

Both M&D were at their doctors on Monday following their Thursday 2nd shots:

Mum: Bacterial infection at the shot site on her arm (easily remedied with antibiotics, better now.)

Dad: renewed Shingles...he had it about 15 years ago. Not horribly bad but uncomfortably, managed, treated, went away after many months. This was pre-shingrix and his pcp advised against the vaccine for it back then for whatever reason...

And it could be stress related and a total coincidence. In my Dad's case, I think it might even be the end of the stress, he's probably been in internal knots from shot 1 to shot 2, and likely let all that go after he got the 2nd...idk, something. Either way, it was diagnosed very quickly this time and should respond well to treatment. (and yes I will be pushing for them both to get the shingrix jabs on the other side)

Aerides, so sorry about your parents and I hope they are OK. Shingles can definitely be brought on by stress. I had shingles 3 times and each time I had it I was under unusual stress. Your parents should definitely get the Shingrix vaccine but your dad will probably need to with a while since he currently has Shingles.

DH had his second Pfizer vaccine Wednesday afternoon. His arm was a little sore yesterday, less sore today, and that’s the only reaction he has experienced. He had an extremely mild case of Covid in October, and with both shots, he has only experienced a mildly sore arm. He has type O blood, and I continue to see studies that say those with O blood seem to have an advantage over the rest of us.

If you like data, and I know you do, you can browse the adverse reaction database here:
https://vaers.hhs.gov/data.html

Last I checked, Pfizer had 3X the adverse reactions as Moderna, which seems odd since the Moderna dose is 4X the Pfizer dose (100ug vs 25ug IIRC).

Interesting. DW and I just got our first Moderna at the local grocery pharmacy. We both noted that there was no typical alcohol wipe prior to injection. Maybe it by design to save time??

I had Moderna at a county health department and before both doses my arm was cleaned with an alcohol wipe.
