Covid Vaccine Distribution

Just like PP, we both got first dose of Moderna today..it was a the closest pharmacy to our farm 14 miles away. We both walked in at 144 and by 153 both had received our vaccines.

Unlike PP our pharmacy had more people behind the counter then in the store. The whole time we were in there we saw 3 people get vaccinations and two more at the counter signing in.

I released the two appts I made in error and within 3 minutes, a member of the staff was calling people on the waitlist to slot them in.

After sitting on a 225K person state waitlist and having the only clinic in town STILL only vaccinating 75 and over, I'm still amazed we got this done. All states need to involve local pharmacies as more vaccine becomes available.

DH and I received our second Pfizer vaccine this morning. So relieved to have both of these shots, so I don't have to worry about weather and trying to get there. Very pleased with how WV has handled this process. No side effects yet.

My elderly aunt and uncle (both mid-80's) had their second Moderna shots three days ago. No side effects other than a sore arm for each of them.

A friend (65+) had her second Pfizer shot two days ago. Same as above - just a sore arm.

I (65+) am due to get my second Pfizer shot in two days. I am hopeful that I will not experience anything other than a sore arm, despite anecdotes I have heard/read about the second shot often "being worse than the first" in that regard. Fingers crossed!

A friend had her 2nd Moderna vaccination scheduled for Saturday -- exactly 4 weeks. This was at a mass vaccination site. They said they would schedule it between 4 days before and 4 after. They cancelled on Friday due to upcoming bad weather and originally said they would reschedule Tuesday. But with several inches of snow here now and early Tuesday morning forecast at 3 degrees I suspect that won't happen. We are in North Texas where we aren't set up for this kind of weather.

Anyway, a lot of people were concerned that by the time they open back up they will be beyond the 4 day after window. At that point the county public health (who is doing the vaccinations) said, that, well really the Moderna 2nd shot can be up to 42 days after the first shot so the window is a bit wider.

I do think this may put everything back. More snow is expected Wednesday so they probably won't be open then. Maybe Friday, so they basically lose a week if it shakes out that way. My 4 weeks is up on 2/23 but I suspect mine may get pushed off as they catch up to the people who they have had to postpone.

Mr. A. got his first Pfizer shot today (I'm not 65 yet, so can't get mine).

The county health department gave the shots at the county fairgrounds. Although he had an appointment (actually a time slot - 9 to 10 a.m.) and we got there early, we idled in line for 90 minutes, creeping ahead one car at a time.

The shot itself took about one second; he didn't even feel it. Still doesn't. Not even a sore arm.

Intake struck me as needlessly complex. At the first stop, they checked IDs and handed us some liability paperwork and a vaccine card to fill out and sign while traveling to the next stop, where they checked the paperwork to be sure it was properly filled out. Why couldn't these have been available online in advance (I did check the county web site)?

Crawled along the muddy ruts to the next stop, where a man handed us a numbered card to put in the windshield.

Crawled to the next stop, where somebody wrote numbers on our numbered card - why? - and waved us on.

One more stop, where somebody took our signed paperwork, leaving us with some info sheets and the vaccine card. Then waved us into the vaccine tent - where, as I said, everything went bim bang bim.

Then we were waved to a line of parked cars where people were waiting to see if they had an allergic reaction. This clearly wasn't happening, so off we went.

We are supposed to get a text telling us when to return for his second dose. Sure hope we don't have to go through the same rigmarole all over again.

The National guard ran one of our sites and it was a well oiled machine. You stayed in your car. They had arranged it so you had to sit in a parking lot for 15 minutes which is a good idea. They told people to honk if they had a problem. There was no way to avoid the waiting after the vaccine.

In Ventura County CA, we just got a notice about availability of our 2nd shot. DW got hers 4 days after me, so we will book times and go together.
Unfortunately, it is at the fairgrounds where we have to hike from the parking lot into a building.

Calico, DW and I got our second shots on Tuesday. So far, I'm feeling fewer effects than I had from the first (fatigue, a little light-headedness). My DW has felt more discomfort, including some nasal stuffiness and arm soreness. But she's still going about the day as usual.

Heh, heh, we have a running "ping pong" game on the nightly news about when vaccines will/have arrived and who is getting them and who should get them. One night it's "40,000 doses on the way to Hawaii." The next night it's "Delayed! XYZ vaccine has been unexpectedly delayed." Then there's always "Location X shut down vaccine delivery early, sending folks home so 2nd dose will be available blah, blah, blah." It's entertaining as all get out, but I still am not eligible!

Who would have thought anyone but a 15 year old (or maybe a 20 year old) would ever want to be one year older than they are?

I was lucky enough today to get my Mom and Uncle in Central Florida signed up for vaccines on Friday. They have been searching and searching and I finally took it over because my Mom was getting overwhelmed with the technology portion. My uncle is 78 and on dialysis for the past 9 years. My Mom is his caregiver and thankfully turned 65 last July. It sounds great right? Well here's the catch, they have to drive 3 hours one way to Ft. Lauderdale to get it. But my Mom is so thankful I was able to find the slots for them. She has been super stressed about him being so vulnerable in his condition. Luckily she is perfectly capable of driving them the distance. They are going to pack up a lunch and take the dog with them and make a day out of it.

Now, to help my best friends mother and father in law find shots in their county in Florida.

I received my second Moderna shot this morning. So far it is the same side effects as the first shot , sore arm pain and fatigue. I bring my 82 year old mom to her first shot on Monday.

DW and I got our second shots of Pfizer on Monday. She had just the slight arm soreness as the first time. I had a little more arm soreness, and Tuesday was crummy- tired, stiff, sore everywhere, slight fever. I'm supposed to be happy that my body was generating a robust "immune response", but my joy was, uh, muted.
Almost back to normal on Wednesday.

We abstained from all drugs and alcohol two days before and two days after.

As for immune response, I got Covid in Jan, and immediately joined the Ely Lilly phase 2/3 monoclonal antibody trial. I got an immediate immune response to the IV, loosing my taste and smell with a fever. 2 days later all symptoms were gone and never came back. Just a heads up for those who test positive, there are options out there, and I really believe I got the good juice and it worked! who knows, maybe I got the placebo and my confidence cured me, but I think not.

I'm glad you're doing pretty well, and I hope your DW feels better soon.

I had the shot at 2:00 today. At about 6:00 pm my arm started to burn a little, so I popped a couple of Advil and it soon settled down. I had abstained from any NSAIDS for the past 48 hours, but the nurse who administered the shot said it was fine to take them afterwards if needed. So far I have no other side effects.

We are supposed to get about 10 hours of freezing rain overnight and into tomorrow, so I'm kind of torn. Part of me hopes I get a fever tonight, so I'll have some way to keep warm if/when the power goes out! :D

The other part of me is wimpy and just prefers to crawl under additional blankets.

I should know in a few hours which way it's going to go!

Yesterday I got a "...FOR YOUR EYES ONLY..." email from the County where I had signed up for some very old folks.

I immediately made 3 appointments for them, glad I didn't wait to ask as in less than 24 hours all 1,000 appts were gone. Probably all gone in just hours but I didn't think to look back at it.

The system is terrible for old folks, they literally time out your entry if you don't complete it in 5 minutes. Which is a short time considering it's about 4 pages of stuff to scroll and read, check boxes, enter name/address/DOB/email/phone/etc.. and check more boxes etc..

I actually timed out the first time doing one.

I took 2 of the folks in today for their shots, brought a transporter wheelchair as the old guy would have died with all the walking involved.

Both got their shots, and the place had a way to sign up for the second shot in 3 weeks.
Overall, it went very smoothly, but I noticed the place seems under utilized as there was no backup of people waiting, ie waiting areas to be called for a shot had perhaps 4 people and 30 spaced apart chairs.

I'm down for the count. I received shot#2 of Moderna yesterday. Approx 12 hours later I'm experiencing low grade fever, feeling very cold, much fatigue and arm pain. I'm wrapping myself in bed with five blankets to ride this one out. I'm using extra strength Tylenol.

I've given up on getting the vaccine for now. I have got in the computer lottery 7 times between the county and the local pharmacy and failed to get a ticket. I'm going to get my second Shingles vaccine and then wait at least 14 days before trying for the Covid vaccine again.

Also the lottery starts at 6am on the days that is held. To early, but at least they changed it from 5am.

The alert system is silly, I have got 42 texts from the alert system, 5 of those were telling of the actual lottery, the rest were mostly here's what we have done so far. I wish I could opt out of everything except, here's your chance to sign into the lottery. Frustrating!

Sunset what a nice thing to do to help people out getting their shots. You are to be commended!

Strange how some people have side effects to the vaccine others none--DH and I had 2nd shots of Moderna a week ago and other than sore arm no side effects whatever.

I got a notice last night that my next volunteer shift will likely be cancelled because vaccine shipments have been delayed due to the winter storms in the rest of the U.S.

Got an email from the county health dept to register for my 2nd dose. Did so and I’m going in on 3/3. 2 weeks before jury duty starts. Perfect timing to get a vaccine before being sequestered in an enclosed room with a bunch of people.

DW and I got first dose, (Moderna), Feb. 10th and are scheduled for 2nd Dose on March 15th. We have both had 2 dentist appts. in the past 10 months and also 1 doctors appt in Dec. - Didn't feel unsafe during any of those and the Dr. did the regular exam sans mask or gloves.

Second Pfizer shot

And now I know! :D

I slept off and on last night. It was hard to get too comfortable because of the arm soreness.

I woke up a few minutes ago with a bit more arm soreness; fatigue; a low-grade fever of 99.8, and all-over achiness like I would expect with the flu.

Nothing to write home about, and far preferable to even a mild case of Covid.

It's a good thing I'm a retired bum and can stay in bed/on the couch all day, hydrating and popping Advil.

Hoping to get the 2nd dose soon. Alas, the big freeze to the East and South is delaying delivery of vaccines to my area, so that may put the vaccination mega-site on ice for a week or so.

Edit: I heard on the local news that the delayed shipments are Moderna vaccine. I wonder if others have heard information regarding delayed vaccine shipments and which vaccine is involved.

Ronstar, I am surprised about the jury duty. I bet everyone will be separated by plexiglass. Still good you have the vaccine.
