Covid Vaccine Distribution

Wouldn't recommend trying to sneak into one of the AZ vaccine locations, many of the counties in AZ limit vaccines to county residents only including the county I live in. It states clearly on the registration portal that it's for county residents only and you will be turned away if not. The local newspaper said the county turned away ~100 non-county people during last weekends vaccine clinic.

I didn't show one single piece of ID when I got vaccinated. Filled in the online info using medicare number. They asked online for my BD and address.

Walked in the pharmacy with DL, supplemental insurance and medicare cards in my hand and didn't have to show any of them..

ID requirements really vary from place to place. At the county run drive-thru site where I volunteer, an ID and proof of eligibility is required to even get past the check-in area. Then we ask for the ID again at the vaccination area to match people up with their appointments and make sure the correct chart is getting updated.

Nobody has to prove they live in the area though and we wouldn't know if we were vaccinating people from other states. I saw one man the other day who used a Swiss passport for his ID and that was totally fine.

Since our vax center was run by the health department we had to show a DL or state ID card proving we lived in the county, just to get in the door. I saw nothing wrong with that, since it had been advertised that way in the appointment portal.

Not likely, from everything I have read. Your second shot is reserved for you at the place of the first one. Maybe there are some exceptions, but I have not heard of any.

It's probably easiest to get the 2nd shot where you got the first shot since they usually reserve a slot excslusiely for their 1st shot people. But not always. I believe the second shot is the same as the first shot. And visa-versa. (Captain Obvious strikes again.) I know a guy who got his first shot by signing up for a second shot in early February. Then he reversed the process for the 2nd shot. But they had a wide upon online signup system.

My shot provider sent each person a personal URL to use for both the first and second shot. It was pre-loaded with my personal information. Therefore, it's harder to game the system. Given their efficiency, I think they did it right. While other sites were closing due to delayed shipments, they had their shots ready to go. You can't argue with success.

Here in GA, it's 65 and up unless you fall into a prioritized category such as healthcare worker, police, firefighter, nursing home staff or resident, or caregiver of someone 65+.

Well, I had to go into a CVS the other day and was walking down an aisle where I had a clear view of the folks waiting to get their COVID shot. There were about 5-6 people waiting, and it struck me that only one of them, maybe, was 65 or older. If I had to guess, I'd say the oldest one looked like she was around 55.

So, yeah, I think some younger people are jumping the line by claiming they're in a priority group and relying on the honor system to avoid providing any sort of proof. Of course, I could be wrong and those folks were all legitimate, but... somehow I doubt it.

My friend up in North Georgia thought she’d have to wait until July, when she turns 65, but she got a call from one of her lists, got jab #1, with #2 coming on Monday.

Meanwhile in CA, I see appointments open here and there, but I’m in a quandary:

Living in a county with so many underserved individuals, what is a responsible, white, somewhat-well-off person who is able to isolate at will supposed to do?

I’m not really cut out to be a social justice warrior—heck, I’m not even a Democrat— but if I get shots, who is NOT getting shots?

So I’m waiting a while, I guess....

While I understand this POV, as a society the goal is shots in arms. So, if you are offered it and aren't faking, take it. And if you don't get it, there's zero guarantee that the next person is more "deserving" under today's guidelines (or less), but ultimately, herd immunity is the goal.

Most definitely. One goal I can appreciate is going from "1 making 10 sick" to "10 making 1 sick" and more shots in arms (regardless of categories that are ALL OVER THE MAP) gets us closer to that goal.

Just got our second shot . Interestingly, my tech asked me all sorts of questions about side effects from first shot, advising these might be worse and not to massage arm. DH's couldn't care less and just jabbed him .

TN just announced it will open vaccinations to individuals with comorbidities starting next Monday 3/8. Just signed DW and myself up. Got an appointment next Tuesday 3/9. High blood pressure does it. But seems to be an honor system with our county health department- no proof needed other than DL to show we’re county residents

Same here in Georgia, opening up to people in several new priority groups on Monday, one of which is "parents of children with complex medical conditions". Two of the qualifying conditions are diabetes and obesity. Hard to imagine any proof of eligibility being enforced here ("Please show me some official documentation that your child is, in fact, obese."), so I would anticipate lots more line-jumping in the coming weeks.

EDIT TO ADD: Come to think of it, I don't see why a healthy, young adult parent of an obese child should be prioritized over a 64-year old with high blood pressure. Georgia certainly doesn't seem to be following any of the mainstream science on who is most at risk from contracting COVID.

DW and I just received our 1st dose of Moderna this afternoon at Walgreens in the Chicago suburbs. Incredibly difficult to get an appointment. Purely random and you just have to be lucky and on their website when they randomly load open appointments. They are taken within minutes. Fortunately, if you get a 1st appointment, they automatically setup the 2nd dose appointment 4 weeks out.

I wish automatic second appointments were set up here in TN. We're scheduled to get pfizer shots, so 3 weeks to the second. I'm hoping that it will be easier to get the 2nd scheduled - the pool of candidates will be much smaller because of the difficulty of getting the 1st!

Received my first vaccination today at one of the NY State run mass vaccination sites that's about 20 mins from my house. DH had his there a couple of weeks ago as part of the 65+ group. I'm 64 with asthma and HBP so I had a note from my doctor. Entire process was run like a well oiled machine, I arrived at 1:15, appointment for 1:30, was out the door after my 15 minute waiting period at 1:45. Considering that there were a few hundred people coming and going during that timeframe, I never waited for an opening at any of the stations more than 30 seconds. I was signed up for my 2nd shot before I even had the first one.

Appointments are still hard to come by, but local groups on Facebook are sharing hints and tips on finding one. It took me about 2 hours of trying on Sunday to get the appt for today. Basically, even though the website says no appointments available, if you refresh long enough you will find one when they release the cancellations.

Appointments are available in my state but they have not opened it up to the next priority subgroups, which is a little sub-optimal in my view (from priority subgroup 4, aka dead last).

When you get your first shot had to show ID and fill out forms. They gave you a appointment for the second dose. Got mine yesterday morning and feel awful. Got Pfizer at 11 and by 6 pm had a awful headache. By 11 was shaking uncontrollably and had the electric blanket on high, 6 blankets on top and when not eating was sleeping around the clock.

WOW! Hope you feel better pretty soon!

I got my second Pfizer early Wednesday afternoon, no effects so far. I didn't have any effects with the first Pfizer shot.

Did you have any effects with your first Pfizer?

DH and I got our second Moderna shot yesterday morning. Today, arm less sore than 1st time, nasty headache, and body aches. No fever. Good thing I got a huge pizza yesterday. No cooking today, just leftover pizza .

You may want to look into volunteering at a state or county run vaccination site. Here in AZ, provided there is serum left at day's end, both state and county vaccine site volunteers are offered a vaccination at the end of their shifts.

I have already had both my vaccinations, as have the other eligible (older) folks in my family.

I have some younger friends who are now eligible (teachers) per NC guidelines, so I occasionally check the status of available appointments on the UNC Health system website. Today I was surprised to see that (at least in the UNC vaccination system) you can now choose which vaccine you want to get (different appointment times/locations drop down based on your selection).

It never occurred to me that there would be a choice! I just took the first one I could get, as did others in my family.

The screenshot is from the UNC website.

There’s no sign here in the Republic of CA of when wife and I (age 56) will be getting our vaccines.

In our whacky state, wife just heard on the radio that the apes at the Zoo will very soon get their vaccines, ahead of us.

Are you sure you want the Zoetis vaccine? It's for cats and dogs, so even giving it to endangered primates is a risk.

Can anybody in Michigan confirm that Detroit's Mayor won't allow the JnJ vaccine to be administered by city vaccine sites because he believes it is inferior to the other two vaccines? And that 6000 doses were refused by Detroit?
