Stations out of Gas TX

I have no idea if we have lines at the gas stations here. I read a day or two ago that Louisiana is one of those 17 states that are covered by a state of emergency due to the pipeline problem.

Frank had already just filled his gas tank when the news hit. I have about half a tank of gas but didn't think it would really affect us here so I didn't take it seriously until now, and it's probably too late already. Oh well. If we don't have gas, well, we're retired so we don't absolutely have to go anywhere.

It'll be like lockdown all over again. :banghead:

Granholm announced the pipeline was to restart today (5pm) so hopefully this will be a blip.
Oh good! Thank you for telling us this. I had no idea, and it sure sounds better than staying home indefinitely. :D

No way to reschedule the doctors appointment. My mother is having a health issue that needs immediate attention. I will try to find another family member to go with her but they are all probably in the same boat. I will probably go and if I cannot find gas to get back i will just have to stay somewhere until there is gas available so I can get back home.

I'm sorry, gosh post getting vaccinated you have had more then your share of stress. Take care of yourself...

Bring a gas can and siphon hose with you and siphon enough gas out of her car and put it into yours so you can get home?

Do you remember what gasoline tastes like? :D
Most (maybe all) newer cars now have anti siphon valves. Not sure when it started so good luck with that. I know it's been standard for most cars in the past 6 to 8 years, maybe longer. There are several ways to get the fuel out these days but it's not as easy as it once was.

People like this (filling 7 gas cans as well as their car) are why there's no gas for people who actually need it in NC and elsewhere.

... FL governor has declared a state of emergency telling gas stations not to gouge prices. ...

I live in NC and I have 1/3 of a tank of gas in the car.

I'm annoyed, because it is definitely panic buying around here that is causing the outages. I wish the governor had never declared an "emergency" because that sent people flocking to the pumps. I understand he did it in order to suspend some kind of fuel regulations, and also to head off potential price gouging, etc. ...

We've discussed this before, but while "price gouging" sounds like a bad, immoral thing, letting market forces do their normal supply/demand thing would improve the situation. Artificial price setting is what causes these problems.

If the price of gas floated up to $10/gallon (or whatever), people wouldn't be panic buying. They'd buy what they need, and no more. Shorter lines, and fewer stations running out of gas, so the people who really need it can get it.

Let the [-]price gouging[/-] free market begin!

And if you think this isn't fair for the lower income people, well, they are more likely punching a clock, and don't have time to search out an open station and stay in a line for hours on end. With the free market allowed to work, they can buy enough gas at a high price to get to work and keep their job, instead of being stranded and getting fired for not showing up to work.

That is true! I know I have enough gas to get to my mother's and get her to her doctor's appointment. I will just have to worry about getting home after mother's appointment as best I can. If I have to stay with mother and sleep on her couch for a while until there is gas I will just have to do that. Fortunately my DH who had the knee replacement is doing well enough now to look after himself for a few days if it comes to that. I can't send mother to her appointment in an Uber, she needs a family member at the appointment, besides I am hearing the Uber drivers are having to stop driving because they don't have any gas either. Wow this is like going on lockdown all over again! Of all things... I feel dumb for not rushing out and filling my car and gas can with gas as soon as I heard the pipelines were shutting down. I just figured it would amount to nothing and I was wrong.

It's just a tad pricey, but for those who are desperate for gas you could try buying Trufuel at Home Depot or Lowes. Be forewarned the price is ~$20/gallon. This stuff is for small engines that don't deal well with ethanol in the fuel but it's 94 octane so it should be okay for your car.

Don't feel dumb, you have so much on your mind, give yourself a break. The pipeline is reopened so hopefully people will quit buying extra gas.

You and me both!

You'd think the TP fiasco would have taught us all we need to know about our selfish, social-media-maddened fellow citizens.

Next time there's a teeny hint of a shutdown of anything, I'm rushing out to buy it all up. Then everyone can be mad at me.

There had better not be a hack in the chocolate factory!

”Colonial Pipeline initiated the restart of pipeline operations today [Wed 5/12] at approximately 5 p.m. ET," the company said in a statement on its website. "Following this restart, it will take several days for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal."

So supply should be fine. Unfortunately the run has stressed the transportation distribution segment, that may persist for a while…

Are we back in the 70s? Gas lines, inflation, Middle East problems, Russian problems...what next?

DH drove a few miles north to help some friends this afternoon, and he passed a very large gas station at the interstate underpass, and every gas nozzle was covered - all out.

No fair! We had color TV in the 70s!
We did too, maybe first on the block I think....(I remember posting this here a few years ago) I laugh now but it's what we really had then.

Where are all us FIREd folks going that we immediately need to have a full tank of gas? :)

Our cars have from 1/2 tank to almost a full tank of gas. Here in the DMV we'll just wait this "crisis" out. Should zombies start appearing looking hungrily at our brains, and we need to flee, we have enough gas for 2 cars.

color TV started in the 60s.
For some, we lived in a poor part of town.... So we were considered trend setters in my neighborhood....

See if you can rent a car with the 'purchase fuel' option.
