College Football 2021

And if the reach-out of the ball after the runner's forward motion had apparently been stopped had been ruled a TD, then the Boilermakers would have had a legit beef. Fun for us bench-sitters to debate and laugh over!

Lets hope the players are all healthy, getting good educations and have wonderful lives despite how their extracurricular activities are going.

I never saw the runner "apparently stopped". I think that's why there are about 10 posts here on this topic. Had it been reviewable it would have been a TD.

But we never get to OT if either team could play D.

The whistle was actually well after he reached the ball across the goal line -- the announcers of the game even pointed that out during the numerous replays (and you could clearly hear the whistle during the replay). Of course, the ref claimed forward progress stopped prior to that, but to me if the whistle was not blown before the ball crossed the goal line, should have been a TD.
I didn't know that... I was watching it at a party and couldn't hear a thing. That makes it worse.

The Michigan-Georgia game so far has has been much less competitive than the Cincinnati-Alabama game at the same point. Looks very much like we are headed for an Alabama-Georgia rematch in the Championship game.

I have to agree. Michigan looks helpless. Maybe a better second half.

Actually, if you look at the review...a UT player was trying to DRAG the player across... that's a flag right there... (NO TD... 15 yd flag...).

The Boilers were down a number of their better players (some going to the pros)...so you wonder what they could have done with all available players.

Well I was pulling for BearCats and that did not work out to well, but glad Bulldogs put Blue out of its misery. Now we have another SEC championship game and I hope the rematch is different this time, go Dawgs!

I sure hope the Dawgs can put a whippin' on Saban. It's good to see Harbaugh saddened (again).

I wish Cincy could have hung in there a bit closer but they have nothing to be ashamed of.

The Rose Bowl should be interesting today with tOSU weakened by many opt-outs going against a very good Utah team.

Well, Dawgs are where they want to be. They recovered their mojo from pre-SEC Title game. Now, can Kirby finally take down Vader!? I sure have no idea as to why Vegas has the Dawgs as a 2.5 point favorite:confused:?? Kirby has got show he is an ELITE coach and come up with a game plan and make the needed adjustments. Not going to be a better chance than this year.

Hey, anyone got any connections for tickets?

I was rooting for my local Bearcats and feel they did better than the score showed. But they were still not able to stop Alabama running; and Cincinnati not able to effectively move the ball on offense. So the result was inevitable. I think Cincinnati made better showing than Michigan.

Bama beat Cincy on the first drive. I thought that game was not as close as the score, statistically. I thought Cincy had good special teams, but they could not run or stop the run. That was the game.

Michigan played a much better team. Hard to compare the two.

Agreed, I don't see how the money is going GA's way after that beatdown in the SEC championship. At best I'd say it's a tossup game or maybe 3 in AL's favor.

I hope GA can finally climb that mountain and beatdown Saban. Lots of pressure on GA though given the history, almost none on AL.

Well if you saw both teams in their playoff games you know why Ga is favored and line moved a bit in their favor. They were fast and overwhelming while facing a very good team. Bama also won easily, but against a far less talented team.

Now, wonder what Covid does to each team by game time.

First of all the betting game in Vegas is all about balancing the books. I like that Bama is going into the game as the underdog - that helps. Is Georgia the better team? In the SEC Championship they weren't so it is an incentive for them to prove it this time. Smart vs Saban - I'll take Saban.

I think it will come down to if Brian Robinson can run the ball and take some pressure off of QB and the OL. Metchie (or threat of Metchie) will be missed but doubling Williams will provide an opportunity for others.

It is awful hard to repeat as National Champions but if anyone can do it....

Roll Tide!

Dawgs need their A game to have a chance to destroy the Death Star once and for all. Coaching/adjustments/execution will have to be at the highest level. There is no doubt Kirby wants this more than anything he has ever wanted, but he has to show he is now a Jedi-Master!

In my annual Bowl-A-Rama I have Georgia. It is very hard to beat a better team twice within a few weeks, which was why I chose them. Line has moved slightly toward Ga but it should be a whale of a game.

A difference maker will be what covid does to each team.

Texas Bowl tonight

The Texas Bowl pits LSU against Kansas State. LSU finished strong with a home win over Texas A&M behind the heroics of QB Max Johnson (love the name) who has transferred. Their only other scholarship QB is sitting out, so LSU will play 2 walk-ons and a converted WR at QB.

You would expect a lot of running but LSU's star running back also opted out as did a star DT and a LB. Plus they have injuries, covid and transfer portal and only expect to field 39 players. So thin everywhere.

Kansas St. is at near full strength with a senior QB. I do like KSU in this one but I know LSU has a lot of talent always.

Betting line opened LSU-3 but has moved to KSU -7.

Should be an interesting next to last bowl.

I did not expect the Tigers to be able to compete in this one, but the players wanted to play despite being tremendously depleted. It does however, make me proud that at least some have enough commitment to their team to see it through to the end. Several other bowl eligible teams opted not to play although they were not nearly as short on players as LSU.

I saw both games, but remember the SEC Championship and the history more.

Agreed, that team showed a lot of heart early then got overwhelmed. LSU had no business playing without a real QB and half the D missing, but they gave it all they had.

Thought I'd post this today before yet another meeting on playoff expansion. Personally, I think since end of year has passed, there won't be much resolved today. Not sure if I'm in minority on this, but I do think Ala & Ga are clearly the best 2 teams this year. So, at least this year, system worked. Worked that is if you think it should be the best team as champion.

I do think expansion will likely happen at some point. Details may determine if that helps or not. How will extra games be scheduled? How will teams be determined? Probably more than that.

I don't think 5 years from now college football will look like it does now. I hope the product doesn't implode somehow.

The FCS playoff system could certainly be a model. Speaking of which, Montana State plays North Dakota State in the finals today at noon on ESPN2.

Expanded playoffs would kill the bowls. Fine. I don't understand how they wield so much power to influence playoffs. A lot of them are lightly attended, and many pro prospects are skipping them. I haven't liked this, but after seeing Matt Corral (probably 1st round QB at Ole Miss) and some probable 1st round offensive lineman at one of the Big Ten schools (I forget which), I really get it. Those games have become mostly meaningless.

Expanded playoffs would kill the bowls.

Agreed -- except I'd say "are killing". Going from 2 to 4 in the playoffs have slowly (until recently) been taknig away from bowls which are now largely TV events with little in person. I'm thinking further expansion will start to erode regular season. Once a team has little chance to get into playoffs....

Do you happen to know how many regular season games most FCS schools play? Many FBS schools need those home games for the revenue. FCS doesn't have the big TV contract, but also not the big facilities, salaries, etc
