What is the last thing you ordered from Amazon?

Kitchen shears for cutting pizza.

Still feels kind of wrong tanking scissors to pizza. But need the right tool for the job.

The wheel types are an exercise in frustration.

The rocker type looks like for someone with a death wish or Klingon battle instrument.

Thus, got the scissors.

I didn't know such a thing existed. I've been using a broad-bladed knife, but thought it was only a matter of time before it went sideways and sent my hand into 400° melted cheese.:(

I just ordered a pair of those shears.

I bought a pizza cutter (round) awhile back. It was less than half the price of those scissors IIRC.

But they don't always cut all the way through because I'm cutting on the box instead of a cutting board.

Bought a pair of Keen waterproof walking shoes, but they were a little tight, so I went to order a half size larger and they had a "used like new" pair for forty bucks less. They came today and are perfectly new and they fit.

Two new porthole windows for the boat and a tarp. Went out and measured today and should fit with minor mods. Replaced the screens in the old ones and then found both windows broken at hinges.

Yep! A hole in the water that you pour money into. BUT isn't it fun?!

I just bought 2 pairs of Keen utility shoes. I have wide feet, so many of the Keen styles that I like, are not quite wide enough for me. Anyway, I found this particular style at a shoe store in San Francisco (the good kind of shoe store, where they measure your feet, and look at your feet and gait, to recommend shoes and insoles), Turns out this style has been discontinued. They only had 2 pairs in my size left in stock, so I purchased them both.

Which brings me to a pet peeve. Often, when I find shoes that I like, by the time I need a new pair, they have been discontinued and replaced by another style. Or the manufacturing has been moved to another country, and the quality has changed. Frustrating!

Scat Spikes Matts, DD is going to watch the plants while we snow bird. I said what the HE11 are those. She said it keeps the cats from getting into the plants. OK

Just purchased a weBoost cell signal booster, for dual purpose use. I plan to use it in my campervan when on trips. I get my home internet from a phone employed as a hotspot. Cell signal at home is marginal, so I will also use it to improve my home internet speed (which can be truly atrocious in the daytime).

This thing had better work, as it was dang pricey! At least, with Amazon, if it doesn't work well enough, I can return it.

I ordered 4 kitchen chair cushions for DM. I had them sent directly to her house using the "free" shipping option that over 100,000,000 Prime members get for a mere $120 each year. Multiply those two numbers and try to interpret the resultant 1.2e10. What am I computing here? Anyway, after about a week, they showed "out for delivery", but then a sudden email explaining "sorry your package was damaged and will be returned the shipper. You will receive a refund within 2-3 business days." OK, no big deal, I quickly go to amazon.com and reorder these babies. Easy peasy. Deal done in about one minute. Hours later I awaken around 3:00 am, wondering if I had those new cushions sent to DM or to me? I lay there pondering for about an hour. Stupid, yes. I'm out of bed at 4:00 am and firing up the iMac. I quickly learn, in fact, the cushions are heading to me. I click on the "change order" option and try to redirect or cancel. No joy, these beauties are already packed and on the way, scheduled for deliver the very next day. Six hours after I ordered them; the speed of an organ transplant shipment! The package arrived today in the form of a three-by-three foot, 12-inch deep box, weighing about 20 lbs. For four chair cushions! Two very sturdy boxes inside a third big sturdy box. Makes me wonder how the first cushions got damaged in the opening chapter of this pointless story. I don't need or want these cushions, so off I go to our local UPS store, which is awesome by the way. They are competent, efficient, and friendly, three of my favorite business qualities. I returned them back to Amazon because if I sent the package directly to DM, it would run me over $100 to ship four ordinary cushions 3000 miles. I will never understand how Amazon deals with shipping costs, but it seems to work for them. And I just remembered I need to go back on Amazon and reorder the seat cushions one last time and make sure they go directly to DM this time. Its a good thing I am a goal-oriented person.

Just put the last new filter I had on hand in the furnace. Ordered a new 4 pack so we’ll be set for next year. Yeah, real exciting day today.

I know what you mean about finding shoes that you like (in my case - that actually fit comfortably) only to find that they have been discontinued the next time I need to replace the old ones. SO, when I find a shoe that I really like, I'll buy SEVERAL pairs of them. Probably could put this in the BTD thread, but most shoes I like are cheap! YMMV

Lots of folks are ordering from Amazon Fresh.

We got a coupon emailed to us, $20 off $50 order at Amazon Fresh, since there is one close I decided to go in and shop.
All the customers were outnumbered by the Amazon Shoppers, there were a LOT.

Things that struck me were,

  • the store seemed pretty light on the meat available,
  • it was overpriced on pretty much everything,
  • nice music,
  • clean,
  • the carts worked really well super smooth (probably from lack of use).
  • It had a return window for Amazon returns.
  • Cashier seemed very happy to have someone to ring up.

Don't know why it's called Amazon Fresh as it's no fresher that any grocery store and most aisles were canned, dry goods and frozen products.

I felt this store would disappear, as the vast majority of their business seemed to be orders picked up. Don't really need a store front in a Mall for that.

There's a small shoe store where I live, in Oakland, that sells what they call "comfort footwear". In other words, shoes that are good for your feet, as opposed to all the latest fashions. It's owned and run by one feller. When you go in to buy shoes, you will be helped by him, as he's the only worker in the store. It's old-fashioned in all the best ways.

He has worked in the footwear industry for decades. Every time I purchase a pair of shoes from him, we also chat about local history, the state of the world, etc etc for at least 45 minutes, and usually longer. He talks about remembering when there were a lot more shoe stores in the area, as well as many, many more shoe repair stores. He related his dismay to me, at how the footwear industry has changed over the years, to a business model where new styles are constantly introduced, in order to drive sales. In the past, even a standard pair of shoes could be easily repaired and resoled multiple times. Nowadays, when most shoes wear out we toss them and buy a new pair - if that style is still available, of course.

Although modern methods of footwear construction don't let themselves to easy repair, there is a good side, I think. Modern materials allow for very lightweight footwear that is supportive in the right ways. I'm not sure that older styles, though perhaps aesthetically appealing, were all that great for our feet. Just looking a pair of wingtips makes my toes feel cramped!

I'm returning it this morning. Although it does appear to boost the cell signal, it does nothing to improve my data speed at home. Looking at all the reviews, I think it may well be useful when out in the boonies in my campervan, though only in certain fringe areas. In the future, I may purchase their more powerful model (greater transmit power) for permanent installation in the campervan. However, in the meantime, I am looking at $6K spent on my teeth this coming year, as well as a bunch of campervan suspension work that is probably going to cost close to $4K. For a person of modest means, those are quite significant expenses so - my $500 cell booster is going back to Amazon this morning!

Which brings up something else. I wonder if a separate thread would be in order, where we describe our Amazon returns, and the reasons for returning them. I know it wouldn't be as popular as this thread, but I wonder if such a thread would gain any traction?

Interesting thread, thanks.

Last 3 deliveries:

1.)Vitamin D pills.

2.)A bathroom scale.

3.)Wool Sweaters, amazon brand.

New flap for the dog door. Should have named the young one Kramer for the way he barrels through it.

Start one if you like, if there is too little interest it'll simply fade into oblivion and no harm done.

Fitbit Luxe replacement wristbands of different colours.
Face shields (I plan to wear one when I go for my mammogram this week.)
Sweatshirt
Zojirushi mug

A tiny UPS battery backup for desktop I'm putting together. Tiny as in 1 lb tiny.

A six pack of 2032 batteries. Car remote indicates battery is low and I only had one at home. We change both remotes when we get notified of low battery.

Ordered a new mechanical keyboard with loud blue switches.

This is for a computer I putting together. Desktop baby, desktop :).
