Line Up for Cheaper Gas at Costco or Walmart?

The “refresh” 2021/2022 models S and X all switched to black trim. No chrome at all.

Nice Mustang! Our neighbors down the street have a dark red Mustang Mach-E.

I have to say, that X looks really sharp with the black wheels.

My Mustang is a 2005 with 64,000 on it. I'd like a Mach-E but they are sold out for the next two years.

Ooops! On my part .

Love the color!

Not easy to identify from a side view.

The door handles offer a subtle clue as front and back door handles touch where the doors meet in the center. The rear wing doors raise rather than open sideways.

Costco always used to be 10-20 cents/gal cheaper than other stations in the area. Today they’re only 8 cents/gal cheaper. I assume Costco is maintaining margins, so other stations must be holding back a little? Could it be?

Near me it's more like 40c cheaper, and I just stop there when I'm going to my very-close Costco anyway. I'll check next time I go, tomorrow, and post an update if the thread is still getting traction.

Yes, I notice the door handles now :).

I admit it. I am jealous of your Model X. Good luck with it. :)

Thank you! It’s been marvelous so far. Lovely driving, super quiet and incredibly responsive. One pedal driving is very smooth. Navigation is excellent. Sound system is incredible and theater capability when parked is outstanding.

The tech just about blows us away, and we’re two retired computer engineers. Between the slick “instrument panel” screen, the yoke with buttons, the large center touch screen display with endless features, and the iPhone app that is quite powerful and interacts with the car when we are inside the house or otherwise away from the car but within blue tooth range, it’s got so much going on. Kind of like going from an old flip phone to a smart phone, except this one has wheels!

^^^ Now if I could just figure out what this thingy is for where the gas nozzle is suppose to go...

I've noticed that when prices are going up, the difference between Costco and others shrinks from when prices are stable and when prices are falling, Costco falls first while others try to maintain the higher prices for a while.
My theory is Costco prices their gas on the price of the latest gas load to their station while other stations lag sometimes.

There are always lines at our Costco Gas. They even spill out on the street from time to time. Still, I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes to get gas. Last I was there was 2 weeks ago and I noticed no difference. It wasn't the worst I've seen. YMMV

Our Costco is cheaper by 11 cents to 35 cents cheaper than all the gas stations within miles. And the one that is 11 cents higher is a Walmart one, where the price might be that if you are a Walmart+ member or pay cash.

Bjs is literally right next to the subdivision I live in. Since I WFH I'll drive up there on a Tues or Wed around 9:30-10ish and fill up. No waiting.

Quite dismayed when I went to the local Costco to fill up and found it completely fenced in and under reconstruction. Here one week and gone the next. Terrible timing for this, ugh!

Heh, heh, we got very lucky. They updated our (closest) Costco gas maybe 3 years ago while we were traveling. They added 1/3 more pumps and redid the flow a bit. Very positive results for the pain. YMMV

Last time I went, I think it was 17 cents better than the cheapest gas I could find otherwise. But, I've seen as much as 90 cents better - for a short while. More typical is 25 to 40 cents. I think the rapid rise in prices is compressing the savings potential - possibly due to limited supplies but I don't actually know that. YMMV

I constantly watch fuel prices everywhere I go.

And 4 mi. south of us, we're seeing $4.459 gasoline for regular 87 octane 90/10 gas. That's cheaper than Costco locally.

Sounds like a 4 mile trip worth the effort - especially for an empty tank. Hope it stays low!

Cheapest gas near me is always Walmart Neighborhood Market, currently $4.56. Same place we get groceries. It's less than 5 minutes from the house.

I just checked Costco... it's a penny less than Walmart, but it's 20 minutes away. And I've never seen a line at Walmart.

Tesla Model X.

I thought it was the Model Y. So not even the Model X has a decent amount of ground clearance? I guess Tesla has no interest in selling vehicles in areas that get snow.

Today I went, and noted the Valero station right next to Costco:

Valero (cash/reg): $5.44
Costco regular: $4.79

I probably had the suspension set to low.

The Model X normal ground clearance is 6.6 inches, although the adjustable air suspension can be raised to 8.1 inches under certain conditions.

People drive Teslas in snow all the time, in particular driving to ski resorts is quite popular and many ski resorts have Tesla Superchargers. Plenty of Tesla sales in areas that get snow.
