My military discount applies to less and less items at Lowes. The readout says "already at lowest value" or some such.

Hey.... coffee is starting to show up more regularly in 12oz bags instead of 16oz. It probably wont be long before you wont see 1lb of coffee anymore.

Oddly enough, I went to Cheddars on the mainland and my buddy asked for the military discount. The young wait-person gave it to both of us though I never served. YMMV

150 pounds of fescue seed from the local co-op over the last few years:

2020: $228.11
2021: $325.88 (42.8% increase YoY)
2022: $432.33 (32.6% increase YoY)

I think it's about time to let the weeds take over.

This! I only buy the small consumer bags of 5 lbs or less. Doubled in price.

Ah, you are confirming something I heard from my military friends last week. I thought he was confused. He said it seemed that very few items got the discount.

May of 2021, rear tire for our Roadking $262
Same Dunlop tire today $378
44% increase

It's not a good time to be growing anything....inputs are through the roof.

I bought a box of protein bars the other day. They’ve gone from $13.99 to $16.89, an increase of almost 21%.

Just renewed my USPS mail box rent. I was shocked. The cost has been creeping up for several years but this year it went up (best I can recall) by about 70%! A very quick, back of the envelope estimate suggests I'm paying $70/month/square foot of rental space!! :(

Huge changes at the USPS this year. It is bigger than inflation for them, they have all kinds of challenges. Inflation is just adding to it.

I recently returned a 1/2 oz. part. I had to put it in a small padded envelope. Their cheapest solution was almost $5. The clerk said it was because of the envelope. The part was $15, so I at least netted $10.

They used to have these envelopes and boxes in the lobby where you could buy them for a few bucks, and whatever you could stuff in them was a "go." That option seems to have been removed.

EDIT: looked it up. "Flat rate priority" still exists. I guess they just removed the boxes from the lobby because of theft? The new "flat rate priority" rates are double of what I remember from about 4 years ago. A small box is now $9. I remember $4. BTW, "priority" means nothing for these. "Priority Express" is their competitive product to Fedex or UPS.

Lots of details here. You may get vertigo reading these: https://pe.usps.com/resources/PriceChange/October 2022 Price Change - Notice123.pdf

Thanks for the update. Can't say I'm surprised that USPS has been hit by dreaded inflation. I'm just surprised that they feel comfortable hitting the consumer with such a wallop! We sent one of the flat rates home (the biggest one) and I think it was about twice what we paid just a few years back. I was kinda shocked. Still, anytime I need to get liquids home, I mail it since I can't take it on the plane.

DW was up there this weekend and didn't have issues with the discount (Lowe's) with in store purchases. Stuff online is really a "depends" on kind of deal. We have found it can be hit or miss depending on product and any sales/promotions going on. We recently bought an acid reducer (well water treatment appliance) and Lowe's wouldn't extend the discount (on sale) but Home Depot would. Also, Lowe's would ship it for free, but HD would not. We ultimately bought from HD because they offered an additional $200 discount with a new HD credit card. So, YMMV with the mil discounts.

They usually have commercial shipping supplies that cost money, but the USPS branded boxes should not have "up front" costs. They are marked as the "Priority" or "Express" boxes and envelopes. You can also order them online through a USPS account and there also is no "up front" cost for them.

Also, "priority" DOES mean something. For CONUS shipments, it's usually 2 or 3 days. I have shipped stuff to Alaska via Priority with regularity for a number of years and they have never taken more than 3 days...and is MUCH, MUCH cheaper than UPS or FedEx. And when I say cheaper...I mean by at least $25 for the smallest package.

Gotta admit - my shipment from the heartland to the Islands by flat rate (priority) was only 3 days this time (I have seen it take 5 days.) It's just the rate at which the prices are rising that seems out of line. YMMV

As can be said for almost everything. USPS is still cheaper than FedEx and UPS (at least for the packages I send).

Scored a 5 pound bag of Eastern potatoes yesterday for $1.99. That's 40 cents a pound, just like the good old days!

Home owner's insurance renewal came into today. The annual increase is 12%. I find it odd that they determined the replacement value to have "only" increased by 9.5%, though. So, it seems most of our annual spending is considerably higher than the inflation rate Uncle Sugar is putting out there.

Especially since the latter two have zone pricing. To the Islands, USPS is the same price as across town. But the "for profit" guys charge more for long distance shipping.

USPS does beat the "other guys" but their prices have really jumped. YMMV

Wallyworld used to have Coca Cola 1.25L for $1.14 it has crept up to $1.44, +26.3%. Whatever the market will bear pricing.

I'm starting to think this is a SCAM!

SUBSCRIBE AND SAVE!

Amazon:

I drink Propel Black Cherry water (product of Coke)

When I started buying it thru Amazon over a year ago, I was paying about $8 for a case of 12 24 ounce bottles.

Then a few months ago, Amazon raised the price to $10.50 for the same case.

Today, I got the notice for the monthly shipment and in reviewing the order, the price is now $13.79.

So I cancelled the subscribe and save order.

I'm pretty much done with these guys. My last Prime order, placed on 10/4 is lost. I keep getting revised delivery dates. This is for a $12 plastic jug for holding wood pellets for my smoker.

We are not big customers.....only averaging about 200 orders a year. They lost us....Walmart is one mile from the house. (Walmart sells my Propel....for less money)

I concur with your "scam" hypothesis. I have no more subscribe and [-]save[/-] get screwed items. I have used Amazon music for several years but that application has become very glitchy and they keep removing songs and pushing higher and higher subscription tiers on me. I am sick and tired of it. I need to figure out a way to export my song lists so I can kick them to the curb...at this point, I don't think I will be doing much business with Amazon since it is no longer a decent deal to me.

I think the savvy people have figured these guys out. Amazon is closing a boatload of warehouses and office buildings (announced recently) and if it wasn't for AWS (cloud software sales) they would be really hurting.

I believe these facility closures are the result of a lot of buying is ending and they are raising prices for the remainder of the buyers to make up for it. Clearly, the Subscribe and Save deal is shady. Today, I went back to Amazon and found the Propel water in the same size bottle and case for the previous $10.50 price if I bought it outright (obviously from a different seller).

Kind of makes you wonder why they tried to pass it to me for $13.79........(and say in that emal that even though the price increased, you are getting 15% off)

I think there isn't a monolithic "Amazon." DW likes Dove dark chocolate Promises candies. The 150-count pack is sometimes $18, sometimes $24, but occasionally pops up at $54. There are several sellers who seem to be in or out of the market at different times.

I like Amazon's combination of delivery, books, Prime Video, and occasional "coupons" but especially when I don't know exactly what I want. With the chronic out-of-stock situation nearly everywhere, I hate to have to visit multiple places to find what I need.
