Iphone 15

We have an IPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max shipping Friday. Neither of us really needed new phones, but the trade in prices with T-Mobile were so good that it made the decision easy for us. We bought an IPhone 12 Pro three years ago for $799 and sold it back to them for $650. Hard to pass on such a good deal.

I'd have to go from our $40/phone plan at TMobil to a higher cost plan if I did the trade in i.e. from a +55 plan to a Go5G plan. That is what 2 reps told me. I think they recover the so called savings during the 2 year contract you have to take on. But if one doesn't have this plan issue then probably it's a good deal.

I am having great fun with this so I am upgrading to a 15 from a 14.

Ditching the weird charging cable in favor of a normal USB-C will simplify my life a little bit - now all my gadgets use the same plug again.

Not really a good enough reason to upgrade in itself. So I guess this is a BTD item too.

I'm not surprised at all of the "upgrading doesn't make sense for me financially" type comments. Of course it doesn't for most folks. But I agree - it's a BTD item.

I bought a 15 - because I wanted it. Not because I needed it or it made financial sense.

And besides, if we don't spend our money, someone else will.

That's what I figured, T-Mobile is not going to give you a "free" new phone or give a lot of trade in credit unless you add a line or go to a higher priced plan or basically increase your monthly bill in some way.

We went to a T-Mobile store yesterday planning to sign up for their +55 plan at $55 for 2 lines plus taxes and fees. We also wanted to upgrade to the new iPhone 15. The total would be about $75/month + $15 for international calls, which my wife uses often to call her family in Taiwan. Much better price than our current plan with AT&T.

We found out that we were better off going with their $100/month plan (which includes taxes and fees) because we got a much higher trade in value for our old iPhone 11 Pro phones. They structure the trade in value into a 24 month package, so you need to stay with them for that long to reap the full benefits of the trade in value. We will be paying $7/month extra to buy 2 new iPhone Pros. It’s a great deal, and the price is locked in forever (theoretically). Their international plan is also an additional $15/month.

Have an 11Pro and it’s finally time to get a phone that supports 5G. Trade in is decent And the veteran's discount helps so while not in a hurry will probably upgrade to the 15Pro Max once others have had them for a month or two to insure the new design is stable

Hmm, you should be getting extras for that, like maybe Netflix?

I'm getting 1 year of Apple TV + on a $80 a month plan for 2 lines. I was paying $70 but they require direct bank ACH payments rather than credit cards to get the $10 discount.

But I wasn't giving them my bank account, at least for now.

And I've been getting 5 GB of high speed when I travel for the last year, even though I'm not sure I'm suppose to get it for my 55+ plan.

I simply opened a T-Mobile Money account and linked to that. Only use it to pay T-Mobile. Pays 2.5% interest and keep the $10 discount. It’s easy to open with from T-Mobile account and uses the same credentials.

You are correct, we got one year of Netflix. We already have it, but they will cover the dues. Our guy also waived transfer fees, and we each received a $100 T-Mobile gift card which can be used to pay the bill or accessories. They seem to be motivated to sign up new customers. And I was impressed with our rep who signed us up, young guy in his 20’s who was very helpful and knowledgeable.

I just ordered 2 15-pros from T-Mobile for DW and me. She gets a $175 trade in for her 64 GB model X $75 immediate discount, the rest as monthly credits for 24 months) to get the 128 GB 15-pro. I get $350 ($120 immediate; rest as credits) for my 64 GB model 11 to switch to the 256 GB 15-pro. We have the one plan 55+ and these rebates did not require us to upgrade the plan. We could get bigger rebates with a plan switch, but the $60/month we currently pay for both lines is hard to give up... So we didn't ;)
I'd check again. We ordered online without any customer reps. They are due to ship on 9/27 (signature required on delivery). The trade-ins have to returned within 30 days by prepaid mail or dropped off in a store.

Interesting and kind of odd that 2 reps told me differently. We also have the 55+ plans at the same rate (I was wrong above about the rate because we also pay for 2 cellular watches).

I will check online as you did. From Apple I can get the $140 for the XR that I have when I buy an iPhone 15.

For the T-Mobile trade-in I would take the trade to a T-Mobile store vs mailing. USPS lost one of ours for a month. I will never use the mail again for the trade-in.

DW and I picked up our Iphone 15's yesterday. Activation was not smooth for me. Took a few hours, couldn't connect to wi-fi or transfer from my old phone sitting next to the new one. DW has been trying to activate for about 10 hours with no luck. Call to Apple blames it on our carrier.

Sorry to hear that. Mine transferred over without a hitch. And it was the first time ever I upgraded an iPhone.

Mine transferred over easily, but I downloaded from iCloud.
It paid to have an appointment at the Apple Store. They were crazy busy!

Well as it turned out, DW's phone was working all along. We live in a bad cell area. She forgot to turn on wi-fi calling. Once she turned it on, it worked.

And the Xfinity rep had to tweak the activation. Something about the Pro Max. on Xfinity service needs a little tweaking.

Mine took a few hours last night, but I was doing some other things (like syncing the new phone with my new radio in my Jeep, and watch) Otherwise it would have been smooth.

We are on the 55+ plan and were not required to switch to get the $650 trade in deal.

Transferred data over from my old iPhone this afternoon. First attempt failed but second one finished. Some hiccups adding credit cards back into Apple Pay, Had to call into CHase for one of their cards.

No problems with my upgrade. I did the phone to phone wireless data transfer. Didn’t need to do anything special for my watch or eSIM (ATT).

I got a Pro Max this year. I really like the 5x camera. More reach is good!

It was a little concerned about the size, but I barely notice it. Using titanium vs steel has apparently helped with the weight, and it still slides into my pocket just fine.

My favorite thing about the new phone is the smooth edges. The last few iPhones had a sharper edge, this one just feels so nice in my hand with the roundier edges. You may not notice this as much if you use a case. This iPhone is great caseless!

Wow case free on a new 15 Pro Max. I agree everything is nicer without the case. Every time I remove my case to wipe down my phone I am tempted to leave it off. Then I recall how many times I have dropped it.

Like John Wick’s tattoo. Fortune favours the bold

I’ve been case less for the last couple of years. I’ve dropped the phone a number of times but never broken anything.

The last time I cracked the glass on a phone was a few years ago when I placed it on a glass table framed in metal. The front glass touched a metal edge and bam, a full length crack. A case wouldn’t have helped.

That being said, I have AppleCare+, so a screen or back glass replacement is only $30.

I see that AppleCare+ is around $100/year. So for a 5 year phone cycle that is going to be kind of expensive, no?

I "almost" never have dropped my phone. And when I have it has been only a short drop generally to a fairly forgiving surface. Still I'm thinking a case is worry free. My current case is great for holding (kind of clingy) but does not slide in/out of pockets well. So I will try to get a "slide-y" case. The real test is how easy it is to get the phone out of my jeans pocket while in the drivers seat. Could those stretchy jeans be easier? Hmmm....

Just ordered a silicone case with MagSafe for mine from Apple. Should be here in 4 days. Hope I don't drop it in the next few days.

I drop my phone too often to not use a case, but I wish I didn't have to.

I remember once seeing an interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson where he said he never used one. His reasoning is that it's much nicer looking (and feeling) out of a case, and since it's so expensive he simply got in the habit of being extra careful when taking it out of his pocket. That works for him.
