Possibly the worst start to retirement ever!!!

Congrats on retirement and surviving what hopefully will be the worst thing to happen to you in retirement

You may have injuries that will show up in the coming weeks. This happened to me 6 months ago. I am in constant pain. My advice: Go to the Doctor, Hire a personal injury attorney ASAP (it wont cost you anything), Delete this post and don't talk to anyone about it. Good Luck.

This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.

Glad to hear that you're ok. That's quite a transition to retirement

i'm glad you are fine.
The good thing is - since it's almost new, the insurance will pay top dollar to replace it.

So sad.....worst start to retirement only 15 minutes after I left work for the last time. But really most importantly everyone walked away from the crash.....

I'm looking for the tab in FIRECALC for totaling the car 15 minutes into retirement. Black Swan?

Did you buy a lottery ticket?

I thought we anticipated all those lumpy expenses before I retired..
Replaced most everything in house check. One year old car check...what could go wrong? Bammm 15 minutes into retirement first lumpy expense.

Sorry to hear about your experience and pain. I have been debating what you recommend. Did you go to your own doctor before seeing a lawyer? I do want to make sure I have all things covered.

I went to Urgent Care first. After I met with an attorney they referred me to an Orthopedist. The Orthopedist then in turn referred me to Physical Therapy.

I disagree - it is NOT the worst start. The worst is if you had retired and then been killed in that accident 15 minutes later.
(Congratulations on the retirement and it's uphill from here - AND you can take your time getting over the aches and pains instead of having to sit in an office chair.)

Yes you are correct glad to still be here and everyone walked away.
It wasn't the best time waiting for them to determine if the car is totaled...still waiting for some reason. Still trying to determine what to replace it with.
But it sure beats working. Just sleeping in till I want to and not logging into the Matrix... priceless.

This is a true, tragic worst start from 1983. I remember it when it happened:

https://www.upi.com/Archives/1983/0...Barnhart-died-in-an-auto-crash/6534424065600/

Computer executive Dennis Barnhart died in an auto crash hours after his company offered stock to the public for the first time, making him a multi-millionaire. He was 39. Eagle Computer Co. netted $37 million Wednesday and the $15.50 price at which Eagle closed meant Barnhart's own shares in the firm were valued at $9 million.
This was big news in the IT industry back then. $9 million in 1983 would be almost $28 million in today's dollars.

Eagle Computer was one of the first manufactures of IBM PC clones. Eventually IBM came after them (and other PC clone manufacturers) with a lawsuit for copyright infringement regarding the BIOS. That, along with IBM cutting its own PC prices, eventually led to Eagle Computer being out of business by 1986.

Gotta get better from here! Congrats on the retirement.:)

Talk about going out with a bang. Best wishes for a great retirement from this point forward.

Just got an update from our Insurance company unfortunately or fortunately our little lovely Bolt EUV is going to be totalled. Should hear back in 48 hours regarding settlement offer.... fingers crossed for us.
Now the search begins. Fortunately I am see a few dealerships show discounts. Let the games begin.

Bummer, but to be expected.

The bad news is the value of used Bolts has dropped quite a bit. The good news is as you are seeing, some dealers are offering discounts off MSRP.

Bargain hard!

Shouldn't be too hard to replace it. Plenty of new 23's on the lots around here for well under MSRP and large used selection also. 22's with 3 or 4K miles are under $20,000.

So we are working a deal same exact model only grey in color so that's ok. Dealers website showed 1500.00 off MSRP. Using their online get a price tool that jumped to 1750.00 but then the dealer add ons where 2200.00. They called and I advised I would not pay for any add ons and needed their best out the door rate broken down. They emailed us no add ons and 1900.00 off. I emailed them back stating we are seeing 2K to 2.5K off MSRP and were looking for closer to that. They called back and said if we could come today they could knock another 500.00 off. So 2400.00 off MSRP will do nicely I think. We will see if they play any tricks when we get there.

Good luck and keep us posted. You deserve a break today!

So after all the worrying about the insurance company coming back with a low ball offer they advised they were going to cover just over 30K. What a relief ?*?. That's what my optimistic calculations were hoping for. They explained the process used to come up with the number and how we would receive the payment. A few emails and e-docs later the money should be in our account in 48 hours. Gotta love technology when it works.

We picked up our new Bolt last night. Only difference is the color. No games played, easy transaction.

Stress levels returning to normal now...thanks to all who replied.

Awesome about getting youself a replacement Bolt already plus getting a decent amount from insurance!
