I have two comments.
My first is that I'm very much in the same position. We're a couple of years away from at least semi-retiring where DW and I will likely go part-time or work on contracts and be off for part of the year. I'm likewise having trouble concentrating and even made a post about...
I never thought I'd be looking forward to going back into the office, but I do think the change of scenery will be good for me. I am feeling a lack of engagement at work and I do feel like I need just a little more time to get us to at least Coast FI.
So I'm over 40 and like everyone, the last year and a half have been a lot. Kids at home 24/7 and job stress. As an escape, like a lot of people here, I've been doing tons of reading about FIRE and how people that have left their jobs and retired or semi-retired. My problem is that I know I have...
DW and I have been having discussions about buying a beach house or a cabin even though our first mortgage isn't completely paid off (but close). If you have a 2nd home/cabin/beach house, how'd you pull the trigger and decide to buy one? Or did you inherit it? As someone on the FIRE path, it's...
Does anyone have any strong feelings on doing a 529 investment vs guarantee plan? I see a lot of pros and cons out there for which one you should do when your kids are young, but surprisingly not a lot of opinions out there from parents after the kids have gone to school, like did a guarantee...
I think we have at least a couple more months of sustained damage to the economy. We're seeing individuals with the need for a bailout, but I've already seen some smaller local businesses go out of business. That will continue to happen and then as others have mentioned, larger companies that...
We're going to invest. I think the OP has it right, it has to be an amount you're willing to lose. The swings are that wild, but I also think it has the ability where if you invested a dollar today, it could be worth 10 in a year or two.
I'm in a very similar situation. Haven't been on the boards in at least 6 months, but we're still plugging away at FIRE.
We make sure to take our annual, nice (read: pricey) vacations, because that's what the DW and I like to do. Sure we could retire earlier if we don't do it, but there's no...
