    Sabbatical or RE??

Well, 2020 has been the gift that keeps on giving. That is for sure. What a crazy year. I took my self-funded sabbatical for 6 months and did some adventure travel and other physical things that I needed to get out my system. It was glorious and I'm glad I pulled the trigger because who would...

Thanks. We’re both taking time away from work right now, but may dabble with less stressful/highly flexible employment in the future. Work being optional is a beautiful thing. We are definitely enjoying our freedom.

    75/25 is the new 60/40?

I’m currently at 60/40, but according to this blurb, Jeremy Siegel says 75/25 is now necessary due to low interest rates on bonds. I thought holding 40% allocation in bonds was advantageous so that we could buy more equities during downturns (rather than seeking bond interest as the primary...

    Sabbatical or RE??

I approached my boss to have the conversation in late spring, thinking of leaving in early summer. He was very accepting of my decision (he wanted to move on soon himself), but asked me to stay for five more months, which I did. In hindsight, staying the extra few months was very difficult for...

    Sabbatical or RE??

I’m currently taking a personal sabbatical, which started at age 54. I’m about 4 months into it and loving the freedom and ability to do some adventure travel. Mostly, I just like the ability to control my time. I’m also exercising almost every day and the stress (I was also in sales) has...

What percentage of your portfolio is tax deferred

46% tax deferred. We did some Roth conversions in 2010, which put our % lower than it would have been otherwise. We plan on doing more Roth conversions over the next few years.

    Class of 2019

I posted this back in 2014. Well, I officially pulled the plug earlier this week (on Sep 30, 2019) and did it at age 54. I'm calling it my "semi-retirement" because eventually I'll probably do some things that will bring in extra income - e.g., part-time, contract, entrepreneurial, etc. The nice...

car people - suggest a toy

My very first car was a '72 Datsun 510 -- bright orange with a manual transmission and a sunroof. I miss that little car so much! It was so much fun to drive.
