Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I get most of my news from DW. She'll tell me if anything important happens and most of what she tells me is not important (to me). I think my mental health has improved greatly since I got of the news wagon a couple of years ago. If I'm ignorant because I don't know what's happening halfway...

    About death and money

In my state, the funeral side of expenses is put in a trust account at a local bank. I get a statement every year. These expenses are locked in at what we initially signed up for. There were a few very minor expenses (flowers, etc) that could go up, but the big things are set. This amount...

    About death and money

No problems with my dads or FILs prepaid funerals/burials. DW and I have done the same thing. I'd research the funeral home thoroughly first. My dad's prepayment was 25 years earlier. I was a little nervous, but when the time came everything went smoothly and saved us a ton of money. He...

Need to limit my account viewing.

I look at my investments, checking and credit card accounts every morning as part of my coffee routine. I also update Quicken almost every day. I do find when I'm on a trip somewhere, I don't tend to check often.

All my eggs in one basket (brokerage)?

Have 95% of investments at Fidelity. Small checking account at B&M bank that is used to pay all bills. I have enough available credit on multiple credit cards to cover expenses for months if I were to be locked out of Fidelity. Of course, I wouldn't be able to pay off the credit cards if I...

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

Your situation is one of the reasons I moved from VG to Fidelity a few years ago. There's a FIDO office close by and DW and I have had a couple of meetings with our FIDO consultant. We're strictly DIY, but when I'm gone I want someone for DW to meet in person.

Getting an elderly parent to give up living alone

Never could get Dad to move to AL. So, we dealt with it best we could. Several times he fell and couldn't get up, so he'd call me (or 911) and I'd come over and get him up off the floor. Then we'd have the "talk" again and he'd refused to move or to hire help. He had one last fall just...

    NFL 2023 Season

Being a life-long Chiefs fan was hard for about 50 years, but I sure have been enjoying it lately! The way they were looking towards the end of the regular season, I didn't think they had much of a chance, but the defense and Mahomes did their thing. Let's try for a three-peat next year!

    TurboTax: Now what?

I've ignored the drivers license information. It will still e-file.

    Knee replacements

SIL is needing knee replacement. I'm dreading this as DW will be taking care of her. I'm about 99% certain that she will NOT do the rehab. She has a couple of friends that had the surgery and they've convinced her that it's no big deal and was easy. I think her best hope for success would...

do you weigh your high school weight?

I'm a good 50lbs heavier than my high school weight. As others have said, it's all muscle.

    Fidelity calls

Funny, every time I call Customer Service (anywhere) I end up feeling like I'm training the associate. Yesterday, it was a Chase guy. I told him I wanted to transfer my Ultimate Rewards points to my wife's card. Normally, this is an easy online process, but the card was new and we had to set...

Balancing an advance on kids' inheritance

We didn't try to even things up on undergraduate degrees. Oldest daughter and youngest son both went full time and cost us a bunch. Middle daughter went to community college and dropped out once done with that. She knows that we'll finish paying for college if she wants to go back, but with 3...

    wills how often rewritten

I'm just saying that a Will that is not filed with the state/county and/or probated doesn't hold any legal value that I know of. It's just a piece of paper. In my state, if you aren't going through probate you don't have to do anything with the Will. Having said that, there may be instances...
