Would it be better to take Social Security at 62?

After reading all of this it seems there are two primary arguments used: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush (aka claim as early as possible, aka get while the getting is good) Why spend my (own) money when I can spend the government's (my own, kinda) money - also pretty much boils down...

    Drinking water - how much?

This is not really accurate - lots of "estimates" are based on little or no science. Remember that you get liquids in the food you eat and other beverages count and those count as part of your total. Did the doctor cite lab tests on creatine or BUN? Or just a generic "you need to drink more"...

    Colonoscopy, which prep?

I agree with SuTab - yes, a lot of tablets to swallow but doable and not a lot of nasty liquids. Also, doctor said it did an excellent job - I did follow a light diet for a few days prior to the actual prep. I'd done SuPrep before and vomited to the degree that I had to cancel my test so this...

    Withdrawal Strategies

I plan to retire at 62 (so just a tiny bit early, ha!) with a pension. For those years from 62-70 rather than take SS I'll be withdrawing between 4 - 5.5% each year...but immediately after starting SS that WR goes down to 1%. So I'm not worried at all and not lowering my lifestyle at 62 or...

    To mow...or not to mow

My yard is about that size and I use a batteried walk-behind - takes just around 30 minutes and another 10-15 with the weed whacker. I actually enjoy it in the spring and fall - not so much when it's hot and humid. Luckily the growth slows down around then for a month or so. I've always mowed...

When To Take Social Security? Study takes a statistical approach.

The main issue is that people either don't have the money to fully fund their own retirement until age 70 or they can't stand the idea of spending down their own money and waiting, even if they can afford it. I fully intend to retire at 62 and spend down as needed until age 70 - my standard of...

Do You Drink Enough Water Each Day?

I get the straw thing but I've read in other forums women getting "smoker's lines" above their top lip because of using straws for most of their liquids. I've heard things like "to avoid staining my teeth" but they weren't pleased with the lines either and ended up getting a procedure to fill...

High Cholesterol despite correct weight, diet, exercise...What to do?

Also ultalabtests.com - no blood draw fee and very comparable rates on lab tests with frequent sales to make them even cheaper.

    Tooth Implants

Frankly, I feel the same way. I've had very good luck with posts and crowns, with them lasting more than 20 years...and certainly no immediate failures which seem so common with implants. Not sure why they are recommended for older people who are losing bone in their later years.

Colonoscopy prep / Miralax or Suprep

I will second your vote for SuTab. I'd attempted a couple years ago with SuPrep with resulting projectile vomiting from so much gagging - and had to cancel the procedure. By the time I finally was brave enough to try again I explained my issues and they recommended SuTab. No nausea whatsoever...

Best time for SS withdraw is age 67 not 70?

...millennials don't seem to care much for "greedy" boomers so I wouldn't want to count on THEM to save their elders (meaning me!). I totally agree that the tide is changing .

    SPAM Fans?

I have a can of Spam a few times a year - I slice each can into 8 slices which is 4 meals. Fry until crispy in a skillet and eat with mustard on regular bread. It's a guilty pleasure from my childhood...I eat the low fat version but I'm not overly concerned given the frequency.

    Re-retiring?

I've seen broad annual estimates of 1% - 4% of your home's appraised value. Even if your new downgraded home was valued at $300k that would come to $250 - $1,000/month. I certainly spend closer to 4% simply because my home is 20 years old and things like roof, major appliances, furnace, etc...

Cheapwad Finds--Opposite of Blow That Dough!

My favorite soda can sell for as high as $2.50 a 2l bottle but occasionally bottles are on sale for 3 for $5 or sometimes even 4 for $5 but this week are 5 for $5!!!!!!!!! Wooohoooo!!! I am ashamed to say how many I bought...in multiples of 5, but it was a LOT. :fingerwag: And I may not...

    Laundry... unrealized savings..

Since COVID I admit I've been wearing clothes longer before laundering and wearing them a few times IN A ROW rather than cleverly mixing them up :coolsmiley: So between me and my SO it's a single load of clothes each week, a relatively small load of towels, and a load of sheets. I'd like to to...
