Dropped my youngest off at school, exercised on the elliptical, hour walk with the dog, checked email, ate, grocery store, dump, cooked homemade chicken soup, picked daughter up from school, chatted with the wife...
"I take issue with people who continue to work and claim to be retired, to me that is redefining what it means to be retired in a way that stretches the definition too far."
Sounds like someone has a lot of time on their hands. Perhaps a part time gig with an employer who may force you to take...
Yup. Pulled the plug for the most part (work less than 5 hours per week with summers off) this past summer at age 52. 700k in retirement accounts with 250k of that available due that amount in a 457b plan. That, plus wife's pension of 48k/year (COLA with health care for both of us for life)...
Didn't work for my/our situation. We continue to work p.t. for the next couple years, so I put that in, but I didn't see a spot to plug in two future s.s. incomes. Did I miss something?
Yes, I did, but agreed with the next post, "You likely don't want to plan on a withdrawal rate as a percent of your net worth. Net worth typically includes things (like homes) that cannot be spent in small amounts. Withdrawal rate should be calculated from a narrower set of assets.

So, based on the tongue and cheek response to my question about the usefulness of calculating ones net worth, along with my reading of the above machinations, it seems figuring out one's net worth is for personal reassurance and to play a parlor game.
Update: So after consulting with a friend who is a financial planner and after much hemming and hawing/discussions with wife, I decided to leave my main job and keep only the one day per week consulting contract I have. It's been great, getting to a lot of home maintenance projects that I never...
Our front loader broke a few months back. Repair guy came out and said we were using to much detergent for a front loader and recommended no more than one tablespoon per load. We keep a tablespoon on the front loader and use the recommended amount every time. Clothes are clean, washer works.
Great feedback. Sounds like people are saying I can follow through on this plan! Now to just deal with the emotional aspect of letting go of a steady, good paying gig and drop down to very part time. Any suggestions on that front would be helpful as well.
Thanks!
Patricia Lynn and 38Chevy454, thanks for the feedback. I will be speaking with my employer in the near future about this idea. Wanted to make sure the math worked out first tho!
Thanks again.
