What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Don't completely understand Netflix's reasoning for having an extremely small theater release of this movie. It cost them ~$160M to make, seems a full theater release would have been the better choice to re-coop some of that cost. Unless they expect it to attract a load of new subscribers?

Netflix only does small releases because they are not in the theatre-showing business. They only do the releases at all for oscar-eligibility (which Scorcese and the cast probably also require). The awards buzz is huge bonus advertising for everyone.

I liked The Irishman, but liked Goodfellas and Casino more. I was happy to see Joe Pesci back and thought he was marvelous.

Finished Netflix's Daybreak, post apocalyptic dark comedy
Halfway through The Kominsky Method with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, highly recommend.
And finally Raising Dion, scifi. It had its moments.

You can tell the weather has turned . . . too much tv.

I just discovered Dangerous Waters on AWE. Series is about a group of guys circumnavigating the world on specially modified jet skis. They start in Alaska, cross the NW passage, and continue on their trip. Right now they are in Japan, heading for Russia, and then back to Alaska. Last year of the show as they will complete their trip this year (I think it's taken seven seasons). I don't jet ski or have interest in it, but the show is very interesting. From the beautiful scenery, personal interactions among themselves, wildlife, interaction with the people they meet, and the obstacles they have to over come make it one of my favorite shows.
I think it's also on either Amazon Prime and a few other outlets.

Magnum PI... The new series is better than the original.... IMO.....

I've just finished The Feed on Prime. A British sci-fi TV series (Season 1 only at this point - 2019) It was pretty interesting, although kind of hokey in some areas. One guy was really annoying. Now starting on The Man in the High Castle. Wow, it is really well-done!!

It is not a series but I just watched a terrific movie on Netflix; "The Irishman." But be forewarned, it is 3½ hours long with no breaks.

agree on it being terrific although for the most part the actors always appeared older than the people they were portraying. Scorsese, Pacino, DeNiro and the others should have made that flick 20-yrs ago. as for the length...that's what the pause button on the remote is for.

That's what made the film so damn expensive. There is a short (20'ish minutes) clip on Netflix where the technology used for the aging of the actors is discussed w/ Scorsese and the main actors.

The length of the movie didn't bother me too much, but the movie itself was somewhat of a disappointment. The plot moved along a bit too slow for me.

The Irishman answers many questions about Jimmy Hoffa, the mob, the Kennedy's but the end is still a mystery. The last hurrah for the big boys. I loved it.

The Man in the High Castle gives insight on where we'd be if we lost WWII. Much to learn from that one. Makes me grateful to our soldiers and allies.

I'll keep reading to find my winter series. Too much to choose from these days.

I disagree. It’s definitely a well-made show and it makes us ponder what it could have been like, but it’s still just an entertaining, sci-fi movie IMO. But of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

It’s all fiction, folks, the ingenious product of a good writer’s mind. :)

True, the alternate universe part is sci fi. Just saying, it might have been much worse than the series depicted. Gave me the creeps at times.

I haven't/hadn't watched the Netflix clip but did read somewhere that this "aging" was produced by the folks at Pixar. I an not a "Star Wars" fan having only watched the first one so many years ago. Not that I didn't enjoy it but rather have lacked the time/opportunity since. So imagine my surprise upon watching "The Mandalorian," I was hooked. (I had to, of course, watch "Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" to catch up... not entirely successful.)

Anyway, my first thought watching "The Mandalorian" was "Holy Moly! How did they build the studio sets" to film this... and where?. I later learned that the background images (and some others) are computer generated animation. Very impressive because even knowing that failed to take away the magic.

November 2019 LA "Breaking Bad" Pop Up!

....Something a couple of weeks ago tempted me to binge a second time on "Breaking Bad." It has been many years since I last sat down to watch each episode from start to finish....)

I now remember what that "something" was:

I'm very surprised nobody has mentioned Watchmen on HBO. It's really an amazing series, extending the original Watchmen comic book canon, that is completely unique, and exceptionally well-written by showrunner Damon Lindelhof, the creator of Lost and The Leftovers.

There are only 9 episodes in total - next Sunday is week 8. If you're at all familiar with the story, it's a must-see and is based on the comic book series as opposed to the movie. I was not familiar, but have educated myself because of the program and am completely hooked.

"Atypical" on Netflix. Really good writing and acting. Understated, funny moments.

I’m really enjoying this thread. My
.2......The Crown, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Killing Eve, Call The Midwives, Poldark. Downton Abbey, The Kominsky Method to name a few!
Thank you to all for the advice/reviews. [emoji4]

We just finished Poldark. Fantastic.

Going to Jack Ryan. And starting to watch Mixed-ish, race-tinged coming of age period series, spun from Black-ish. Never thought I would like that but it is quite well written-and cast. Gary Cole is always fun.

hollyweird has forgotten how to make actual, laugh-out-loud funny comedies. they can make ‘smart’ comedies, they can make trashy comedies but not funny ones. too bad.

I am running out of good old British Police Dramas, I am sure I have seen virtually all of them, including those that are from 1960 onwards. Not much new stuff. The late 90's to the mid 2k are my favourites. Basically those made when they had Cell Phones LOL.

Money Heist on Netflix. A wild ride with some truth sprinkled in about an orchestrated break in to Spain's Royal Mint. You won't be bored from start to finish. There are subtitles.

Been watching it.

I prefer His Dark Materials on Mondays.

I'm watching it too. I don't know that I'd recommend it though as it's a very specific taste. not quite superhero, not quite drama, a good bit of kooky and plenty of "you have to be ok not knowing what's going on" - this is Lindelof after all.... Do love the strong female roles though, especially Jean Smart, so I'm in for the rest.
