what office software product do you use?

I have microsoft office for my software on my laptop. I bought a new laptop and it has windows 365 which after the expiration needs a subscription to keep active. Does anyone here use any of the free software programs[open office] for replacing office? I don't use my software suite for any work these days but nice to have when you need it.
 
We also use Microsoft 365, because we used Office daily for our entire careers. I use Apple’s office suite Pages/Numbers/Keynote now that we have Macs, but DW will not switch, so we’re also subscribed to MS 365.:(

I was/am an advanced Excel user, and Numbers isn’t quite as sophisticated - but it’s more then adequate for 95% of users. Some of my DIY financial spreadsheets use uncommon functions that aren’t available in Numbers, so I still use Excel for those since we have it - I could make Numbers work. I never use Word or PowerPoint any more…Pages and Keynote meet all my needs.

Google docs are very popular and capable, and I use them because I’m forced, but I limit my exposure to Google products as much as possible for privacy reasons (yes, I know that’s a losing battle). Google Sheets is superior to Numbers, but Excel is still the most capable. YMMV

I’ve never tried Libre Office, but it’s mentioned here occasionally.

I'm still using Office 2016. We'll probably buy new desktop computers in a couple of years. Wonder if it will load then. I don't intend to pay a subscription fee if I can avoid it.

The inventor of the spreadsheet has an interesting story. He got poor legal advice and didn't make any money from the invention.

I use Libra. Works great. I imagine super fancy stuff may not work, but for m9st people it’s probably fine. You do have to get used to new menus etc. but the help is decent.
 
LibreOffice and Google Docs/Sheet/Slides.
Both work great for me. The Google suite of products is great when you need to collaborate with others on a document.
 
I decided to go with Office 365 since it comes with a Terabyte of cloud storage that I can use to backup my primary PC (including my documents and travel photos). I could get by on Google Docs and Sheets but why not use Word and Excell when I get cloud space that I need for backup and would cost as much otherwise. I keep the space hog astrophotography stuff on an external SSID and have a 2T Dropbox account for that stuff.

This is a good point. DW has a lot of photos that we back up online. We get unlimited space as part of our Amazon Prime account however, if I was to pay for cloud storage, paying for a subscription to 365 would definitely be considered. I’d get the office product I’m familiar with and the storage I need for probably a pretty reasonable overall cost.
 
When Microsoft switched to subscription, I switched to Google docs/sheets. I do some collaborative work for a community group and Google docs let's me save as a .docx, to throw over the fence to the newsletter Editor.
 
I got Office Pro 2021 on stack social for around $25. Currently its $50 but still good for no subscription and it works great.
Interesting. I still have an old (non-subscription) copy that I was able to move to a new laptop when I got one. Do you know if this "one machine" license is good for one machine at a time, or only on that one machine it was first installed on?

Open Office here. My days of extensive number crunching and long documents are way behind me. It is adequate for our use. If I am sending a document to someone else I will save it as a pdf so reading it is not a problem.

I prefer hard drive based software and use Word, Excel and Outlook (all 2007 versions). I do backups to the cloud as part of my backup routines.

I'm Treasurer for my homeowner's association and I use Excel quite a bit. I've created a collection of macros to automate many of the things I used to do manually. I'll stick with Microsoft Office for this reason.

When I get out of the HOA Treasurer business I'll probably consider switching to Libre Office.

Not free but I buy the MS Office version that is loaded onto one computer (no subscription). It's usually around $150 but can be found cheaper on sale at times.

I use MS 365 because I want the updates to the software and I need the 1TB storage. We got a family plan which means you can have up to 6 users, meaning you get 6 accounts each with 1 TB of storage, or 6TB total.

However, if I didn't need the storage and I didn't care much about the software updates I would look for a standalone copy of MS Office from 2021. They are heavily discounted. A good friend of mine that is a software engineer recently told me he bought a copy of this for $29. Just be sure the seller is legit.

Personally I use Google Office as it was introduced to me at my current job and it does most of what I need. I'm willing to live with the giving up of privacy.
 
Apple’s Numbers and Pages work great on my Macs. Numbers took a little adjustment when I switched from Excel, but once I switched over years ago, it starts up and works fast.
 
Been using LibreOffice for several years. Mainly spreadsheet calculations & graphs.
