Spending 24 hours a day with your spouse

There’s a tiny slice in the backyard where I hide out......and as already posted, all the guns are locked up. Sights set, on, on 4/30 or so. Stay safe all.

    Not my ER: CamperForce

I know this is an old thread but I think the book, Nomadland, is quite interesting while also a tad depressing. I have a friend who is a Nomad, living in a very old class A, spending many nights in Wal Mart parking lots and truck stops. He says it is much harder than he expected. Just fyi -...

    Hi, I am 49 and semi-fully-sorta-retired

If I could get gas/food $156 a week I would consider myself a hero. Great job!!

    Depressed.....What to do?

Been through the same, hang in there! I did not address the underlying mental health/self-esteem issues (I am my job! lol) and focused exclusively on $$$. As a result I made some pretty stupid decisions. I agree with you that not making major decisions when you're feeling down. is a good...

    Year 2 retirement blues

Very sorry for your losses. Deciding how we are going to do this retirement thing has turned into a huge mess. I spent way too much time focusing on fire and not near enough time figuring out what we would do all day. Gotten so bad I don't expect we will survive it, together. Hope you find a...

    divorce affecting FIRE plans

Yes, his behavior is the cause of his current suffering, but I still have empathy for him. He and I were similar in that I think we both figured RE/FIRE would solve most problems and that is just flat out wrong. I should have put as much effort into my relationship(s) as I did FIRE if not...

    divorce affecting FIRE plans

My buddy certainly wasn't blindsided, he willfully chose to ignore his spouse. working thru the issues with "wow, I messed up big time" is what is crushing him. In fact she actually gave him two years warning and he still didn't do anything.

    divorce affecting FIRE plans

very timely, as I working thru this exact issue right now. on decent days of course I see that we can stick it out but on tough days the $$$'s just aren't worth it. just last night I was looking at 1bd 1bt condos in fla, not great but only $40k and they are so small I'm guessing (hope)...

    Fermion's Biotech Investing (All Welcome)

Good idea. Subscribed to the thread. There are a couple of folks on slope of hope who actively trade bio's. Currently my primary area of interest is in drug delivery.

One year away from Early Retirement

Three years out of hi tech, now that I'm almost 55 it seems like it would be impossible to get back in (ageism, imo, is alive and very real). Good luck with your retirement!

    On the move.....

After a few years of spinning my wheels I finally pulled the trigger on a home in Green Valley, AZ. The ranch here is sold and closes next week so I am packing up and heading out this weekend. Really just too expensive to keep the current place up and financially it was killing my FI. That...

    For the retired folks

my worry over financial matters has not decreased but it's my own fault - two big areas ended up being issues for us and were not things I had accounted for in the financial plan. First, I spend WAY too much on my hobbies, I have all the time in the world now and really like my hobbies but I am...

    More arguing after ER?

It's been a real rough adjustment for me. I've added stuff to do most days away from the house just so I get some space. Hopefully it will get better over time and actually it is a bit better than it was the first 6 months. Good luck!

New Chapter – Solo move across country (or maybe Hawaii)

Congrats on the move! I sure hope it works out for you and I would be very interested to hear how/why things either work or don't work (we have been "planning" a similar move for 2.5 years and we still haven't done squat......). Cheers, jb

    Cost of Stress

Thanks so much for posting, very relevant to many of us. In hindsight I wish I had a more "balanced" approach to life (stayed in a very high stress, extensive travel, high tech job because I was obsessed with RE). As others have posted I'm also dealing with the fallout of prolonged stress...

Why were so many smart members of FIRE so clueless about their careers?

I think this is interesting, it's not that I made a bad career decision rather once I set my focus on FIRE I did become inflexible. In hindsight there needed to be more balance between getting the most out of life right now and planning for the future. I had the opportunity to explore other...
