    New Coffeemaker

Agree with the electric percolator, ours is a Presto and it makes delicious coffee. Doesn't boil the water as some people think. Alexa starts it every morning, though she sometimes forgets to plug in the pot. Also highly recommend Aeropress for single cup brews.

Looking for kitchen faucet buying advice

Another Delta recommendation here. Delta came installed with our new home, 20 years ago now. Recently the sprayer and handle began leaking a little bit. I contacted Delta for the lifetime warranty. The faucet is obsolete now so they are sending me a new replacement faucet, sprayer, soap...

Costco Tire - Hard to do business with?

I've been satisfied with Cost for tire purchases, installs and service. I try to wait for a good sale and then I think their prices are excellent. Once I bought tires for my MIL's Lincoln towncar they recommended. Road noise was louder than normal for a TC so I returned them. They replaced...

Best walk off the job story

These stories are great! Mine is not that exciting but has a happy ending. My division of a fortune 500 was nearing sunset so I applied for a job in another rising star division. Soon after I was called into HR thinking it was for the new job. Instead I got laid off and was given 7 months...

    Share your amazing coincidence story

Same here; my wife's birthday was the same as my best friend from childhood.

    Auto Pay

FYI (and off-topic), it's financially better to get the $120 in cash from the credit card company (Chase). Amazon won't give you the 5% bonus if you spend the bucks directly on Amazon when shopping.

    I made a Banking Screwup.

I too have been with US Bank for many years and am well satisfied with their services. They have a veteran's plan that provides free checking and saving accounts with no minimum balances and discounted safety deposit boxes. My screwups have been easily forgiven by a single call to my local branch.

At what age did you retire or plan to retire?

I retired at 62 and haven't earned a dime since then (4 years now). However I do a lot of work at home to keep the wife happy since she still works and covers our health care.

Vanguard Transition is too much trouble

You shouldn't pay, I agree, and the "guy" may be wrong. I think if a client has at least 50K total assets with Vanguard, they don't charge any fees for most account types, unless they manage the account for you. Maybe this helps: https://investor.vanguard.com/investing/benefits/at-a-glance

    Blow That Dough! - 2020

I learned from Clark Howard to extend razor blade life by blow drying it after each use. My disposables last 3 months now, shaving weekly before church.

Vanguard Transition is too much trouble

Not confused, but probably unclear. The amount that VG's $250 million has to cover in aggregate once SIPC pays off IMO would be insufficient given VG manages $5 trillion. I may be paranoid, but for me it is better to split my IRAs between two houses to get 2 x $500k SIPC insurance. Thank you...

Vanguard Transition is too much trouble

VG has over $5 trillion managed assets but only $250 million to protect what exceeds SIPC limits. I don't know what that amount is, but it doesn't seem enough to me.

Vanguard Transition is too much trouble

Correct! If I convert my IRA to a brokerage account, then only 500K will be protected by SIPC insurance. The remainder will be woefully unprotected by VG's Supplemental. At least as a mutual fund account, the assets are held by a bank custodian.

Vanguard Transition is too much trouble

I've been avoiding upgrading my last IRA to brokerage because that would make my IRA total exceed the SIPC 500K protection limit. I don't know if it is any safer as a VG mutual fund account, but don't want to exceed the SIPC limit. I will probably move it to another house if VG forces me to...
