    Cataract Surgery Options

I was told 2 years ago that I should have cat surgery. I went to another eye doctor to get a second opinion and was told that it really wasn't that bad. I agree with the second doctor. I'll wait and see. I will also get another second opinion as I feel the first Dr. is a little pushy and...

How often do strangers ask you for money?

Many years ago (70s) I went to New Orleans for a week in the spring. When I first got there I was hit left and right by people for money. I just started doing the same as they were doing and I was left alone!

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I immediately had to respond after reading the first post. Ignore what is going on and you risk not only your rights and future but the future of your loved ones. From what I see, our country and the world is in need of some good old common sense. If you don't care what happens to your...

    Thoughts on Inherited IRA Withdrawals

This whole discussion had me quite worried at first. Then when I parsed out that there were really two situations being talked about, I stopped worrying. I have a roth and it all goes to my wife and then the kids if she is already gone. She would not be taxed if I go. The kids have 10 years...

USAF retirees offered opportunity to "unretire"

Only one. The T-29. The rest were F-105G and then the F-4G. My brother flew C-130. He flew special ops to drop off snake eaters. My father started off in the army air corp in WW2 flying bombers. Middle brother wa a snake eater. He just jumped out of them.

    Kitchen faucet replacement easy DIY?

This is definitely a good tip. I hired a guy to put my last faucet in. This guy couldn't fit under the sink much less reach up to the connections. I ended up doing it myself while he watched.

USAF retirees offered opportunity to "unretire"

I seriously doubt the AF would want me back. Been retired for 30 years, got a pacemaker, and the airplanes I flew were retired a long time ago.

    Miss America 2024 -- amazing

Had a few rides in the F-16 Big Mouth in my last flying assignment. What a wonderful air machine! Very intuitive and responsive to commands. Our squadron flew mixed pairs of F-16 and F-4G. It is a far cry from what I used to fly F-4G and F-105G.

Electromagnetic pulse protecter (EMP) vs surge protector?

I'm still one the fence on getting one that protects against EMP. They are not cheap and it seems that for total protection (house, generator, car) several units would be needed. They aren't cheap and the cost vs probability of needing one is what I am wrestling with on this purchase. One...

Electromagnetic pulse protecter (EMP) vs surge protector?

Thanks for the replies. I looked on line some more and there are a lot of people selling them. I just couldn't see where these devices were any better than the surge protectors I already have. The natural gas generator I have is whole house and should be usable for a while if we have a...

    Poll: Pizza

Thin crust New York style with pepperoni and black olives. Sometimes add a bit more cheese and sauce. Best pizza I ever had was in New Jersey. A hole in the wall named Fratelli's. The daughter was the only one that spoke English. My wife's relatives that live not far from the place said it...

Electromagnetic pulse protecter (EMP) vs surge protector?

Got my own supply via generator. Just don't want that to be taken out hence the surge protector. Just want to know if the surge protector is adequate for all cases and it good for all situations.

Electromagnetic pulse protecter (EMP) vs surge protector?

I read on a web site about a whole house EMP protector for the home, car, generator, etc. I currently have surge protectors on everything. Anybody know anything about these devices and if they are what they say? I have exchanged a few emails with one of the reps for this company. They say...

I Wish ... Was Never Invented

cellphones Have you ever been anywhere, perhaps out to dinner, and everyone is glued to their cellphones? Face to face interaction between people is sadly a thing of the past. Not to mention all the really bad things that occur due the social media in this world. I have never owned nor will...

Quote to Install Sonos Home Audio System

Been useing my old Sonos for years. Sound bar for the TV and two speakers for the music. Only complaint is the software on my laptop to play the music. It doesn't work well with large music collections/play lists. Finding a particular song can be tedious. Used to use Mediamonkey on my...

Too Frugal - Anybody Else Struggle Spending Too LITTLE?

Frugal will soon become the new in thing with the economy headed towards conditions it hasn't been in for a long time. For those thinking about increasing spending those hard earned dollars on frivolous items and services, you could be throwing away the safety net you might need in the future...

    Portable propane generators

Good timing on this thread as I am looking at backup power for my home and just installed a security system for when the power goes out and there is a potential for unwanted intruders in the neighborhood. I originally looked at battery power but have come to the conclusion that it is not...

Debating an electric zero turn mower

I didn't make it to the first reply without having to comment. I have been mowing, edging, trimming yards since I was 11 years old (59 years). Started with an electric (corded) mower that my father built from a kit. It was probably the best mower of them all as far as longevity. Made a lot...
