    AirTag Tracking

For pet tracking I recommend Tractive. We use it on our cat and it's fantastic. It's about $30 for the device and $100/year for the subscription.

Questioning the 4% plan in retirement

A true spend-down calculator sounds like VPW. This is a method where your withdrawal varies from year to year, based on how much money you have at the end of each year. If the market has done poorly, your withdrawal amount will be lower, and conversely, if it's done well you will be able to live...

I think I'm at FI but how can I be sure?

I would just add to the wise comments already posted that you need to make sure your expenses includes the taxes you will be needing to pay. These can sometimes be overlooked when planning.

Italy - comfortable smaller cities to relax in

Sorrento is a very nice town and it's a fairly short train ride to Herculaneum and Pompeii, both of which rank among the best things I've done in my life. I probably wouldn't do them both in a single trip as they are quite similar to one another. If I had to pick just one, I think I'd pick...

How much of a buffer did you have before ER?

I went as soon as I got there, no buffer. I hated my job. However, I was flexible to the idea of taking on part-time work post retirement. I haven't needed to, but I have done it anyways just to pass the time. Rather than doing corporate mumbo-jumbo I've been doing minimum wage retail stuff...

Today is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Day

My mom has Parkinsons. She was diagnosed around 2005, I think. It's hard to remember, exactly. She had fatigue as a symptom from the beginning - that was what led her to get diagnosed. Aside from the fatigue she did well until 2008 when her medication caused her to have hallucinations, which...

    Spreads so easily......

What I find really amazing is comparing the Covid stats to this year's flu stats. For the past week, in the US, there were 1159 cases of flu. Last year, same week, there were 17,407 cases. That means this year's flu incidence is less than 7% of last year's. Last week, cases of Covid were 1.3...

    Resistance bands vs. Dumbbells

We have the Bowflex ones. They are amazing. Expensive, but so easy to change the weight quickly. I love them.

US to Canada for Holiday Ski Trip

Even if the border reopens, I can't see the mandatory 14-day quarantine period being removed by then. That would put a damper on your vacation.

Those with no kids & no relatives to leave money, is your withdrawal rate still 4%?

I use VPW which varies the drawdown based on stock market results and how long you have left to live. I plan for the younger spouse to live to 100. https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Variable_percentage_withdrawal

    Seeking advice

Don't take this the wrong way, but she should keep the inheritance segregated from the family money. Inheritances in many jurisdictions (check yours to be sure) are not part of the marital wealth and hence not subject to splitting in the case of divorce. Once intermingled with marital monies...

trying to preserve lump sum amount from interest rate hikes in future

If I were you, I would stop worrying about the lump sum amount of my pension and think of it as a pension (monthly payment) instead, as long as you feel that your company has a good future ahead of it. This provides you with more diversified retirement income. If you take the lump sum and the...

    daily money managers

Would that actually happen, though? I have to think there are government-run homes that are the last line of defense? I know here in Canada, there are. If you have no money, they will take your pension to pay for your place in the home, and if you have no pension and no money, they still let you...

    ER ramp-up withdrawal strategy

VPW does this to some extent, except for the part where it ramps down again. Essentially VPW takes a percentage of your existing portfolio (not your starting portfolio) every year, and that percentage increases as you get older. Personally, I retired early (42) and am doing a 4% withdrawal rate...

    Stocking Picking Contest - v3.0

I just accepted the default of 25% max position size but I have gone in and changed it now to be 100%, so you should be able to be all in on one position now if you like. Oh, andi added the ability to buy mutual funds as well. Let me know if anything else needs to be changed.

    Do you enjoy airports?

We were just there, but it was pouring rain so if you wanted to see the butterflies, you'd get soaked. So no butterflies for us. It's enclosed, but the roof is open-air (with mesh, I guess, so the butterflies won't get out). They also have free (!) foot massaging machines. I enjoyed a lovely...

    Ayahuasca anyone?

We did a similar cruise this past fall. Loved Devil's Island, in addition to the historical buildings they have a ton of monkeys, very fun. Just be prepared for very hot & humid weather.
