    Silly Frugality?

Thanks to this site I cut every dryer sheet into 3. Seems like such a waste to use a whole one.

    Clogged HP ink cartridges

We leave our HP printer in our winter home for up to 7 months at a time through the hot summer months. When we arrive in the fall and need the printer I wipe the cartridge jets with a wet paper towel. The first page smears a bit but it is good for the season if it prints every 2 - 3 weeks. The...

    Some thoughts: 6 months in

5 weeks in: OMG this is awesome! Hiking almost every day, lost close to 10 lbs, days go by incredibly fast - but it doesn't matter because tomorrow is another day off  DW said today she can't believe it's forever. We are in our California [-]vacation[/-] home and are missing a foot of...

Any advice for a Tinnitus sufferer?

I have the same issue, when I was young I could not stand the horizontal hold frequency in analog televisions and often adjusted it until it was tolerable. Now I have a constant squeal, worse when I am tired or unhealthy.

    Another E-R.org Success Story

OP here. Wow! My first day of retirement was one of my fastest. The removal of w*rk stress has been instantaneous. Like most here I had it 7 days a week and often woke up stressing about something. If this is what I have to look forward to I have found nirvana! Can't wait for day 2... :)

    Another E-R.org Success Story

Today was my last day at megacorp after 38 years. My celebration lunch bbq was my last work activity, said goodbye to many I have worked with for decades and left for retirement bliss. Had a great career and left on a positive note but definitely needed a break. I found E-R.org several years...

    The bulge...[stucco repair]

I hired an experienced stucco guy who patched 3 places where the stucco had failed, one around a corner and another about 12' high. He matched the color perfectly even though it had faded, I can't see where he patched. He charged me $400.

Two-House Pendulum Swinging Back to One

We are down to 2 homes, our primary home north of the 49th and our snowbird home in California. Sold our northern lake property, the boats and all the summer cottage stuff as well. It was fantastic but too much to maintain. We love having 2 homes set up for when we arrive. Considering an ocean...

Old Cars - What Your Mileage?

2006 Hyundai Tucson, 143K. My DW bought it new several months before we met. As a car guy I was skeptical at first but it has been so reliable and good to drive that I am a believer. Nothing but oil changes and an upper rad hose. Cheap to run & insure. She still loves the AWD, sunroof and heated...

    VRBO or AirBnB

Same experience, owners have always been respectable. Have 2 friends with bad AirB&B experiences so have never tried them but as you point out it could happen with any service.

    Lost and (not) Found

'Of all the things I have lost in my life I miss my mind the most' We lost our favorite cork screw several months ago, it was used often and was always stored in the same drawer so we think it may have been inadvertently thrown in the garbage :nonono:

    MIND diet for dementia prevention?

Have to 'heartily' disagree. A strict plant based diet has given me a second life. I have tons more energy, feel fantastic, have dropped all of my medications and have totally lost all of my food cravings. I now enjoy exercise and am in great shape. I am in year 4 and have no desire to return to...

    Car Free Snowbirding Destinations

Shhhh, we want to keep Borrego a secret ;). Even the snowbird season is quiet. Our villa is in the center of town and we can walk to restaurants and the grocery store. Hiking & biking in the state park is fantastic and there's lots of 4x4 trails as well. We love the dry desert heat, better than...

    What you consider *superior* products

+++1 Last month I sent a screenshot from a Fluke handheld oscilloscope to an equipment manufacturer and they wanted a clearer waveform. I dug out my trusty Tek scope (1990's era digital, not my ancient 504) and triggered on the signal immediately. Had to take a picture with my phone but they...

    Do It Now!

Very inspirational imoldr, we have 1.8 investible and are currently on an explority camping trip to find our retirement home. Only problem is both of our corporations wont let us ease into retirement via pt work, only more responsibility. So we need to make an executive decision and pull the...

    Mad Men End

Our favorite show, it started shortly after I met DW. It has been a tradition to crack a bottle of red and watch 2 or 3 episodes on a quiet weekend evening. Will miss that and will miss the music too. My prediction: Don falling out of the skyscraper thus replicating the opening credits.

Small Travel Trailers - Should I?

Love Our R-Pod Over the last 40 years I completed the whole RV procession; backpacking, tent, tent trailer, 16' travel trailer, motor home, 30' travel trailer, 5th wheel and stopped at at a lakefront park model. Last year we picked up an R-Pod, gets us back to basics comfortably and is easy to...

    retirement gift for myself

I loved my VStrom for touring, great gas mileage quite comfy. Better for twisty secondary highways than the freeway, you'll love your Concours for long distance.
