My friend waters down the Soft Soap he puts in his bathroom soap dispenser because he thinks the kids use too much. CHEAP!

    E-Bike

I just sent my buddy - who owns a bike shop - a note asking for him to hook me up with one. I like biking, but hate the hills. I’m 54 - and in good shape - but the hills suck the fun out of it for me.

    What’s Your ART?

I haven’t seen a thread specifically exploring the range of different artistic or creative activities people have taken up during early retirement or the pandemic. I’ve been doing a lot more photography - lately drone photography and waterfalls. I also build vintage & custom LEGO sets...

    Are you still an athlete?

I became much more sports-focused when I retired 3 years ago (@50yo). It’s been a second childhood. I play tennis at least once a week, golf now and then, walk/jog almost every day, play league softball in the summer & have a curling league in the winter. Yes, curling is a sport!

Contingencies/Reserves... how do you plan for?

We created a spending plan for our son's college tuition & buying cars that goes across multiple years. We also plotted out vacations on an annual basis. For home repairs, experts suggest budgeting between 1-3% of the value of your home.

Funniest Comment Someone Has Said About Your FIRE?

Today I was picking up a friend at my former MegaCorp for lunch (retired 2 yrs ago) and pulled up in front of the building in my sports car with the top down. I must have looked pretty relaxed sitting in my convertible when a woman who looked like she worked there walked over and joked, "Just...

    Sports car?

Bought a BMW roadster a few years before we retired on a lark. It has been a gateway to a lot of fun activities: car shows, road rallies, club cruises, and track nights. It has become its own hobby! [ATTACH]26182

    Advice for the last month

Savor your days in the office because you won't pass this way again. If things are moving slowly - remind yourself next year how boring WORK was! I simply told people "I'm going to do as much as I can, and as little as I want!" :-)

    FIRE and your children's ages?

We retired earlier this year at age 49. We were FI for a few years before that, but I found it hard to retire while my son was still in high school. It seemed like I needed something to do until he was off to college. I retired in April - just about 6 weeks before his graduation. Other...

Packed Up My Office and Left Work After 28 Years!

Congratulations – I am two months ahead of you early retirement, and absolutely loving it! At first, it will feel like you are skipping school – now I feel like I am like a school kid on summer vacation. Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

    'Honeymoon' Phase of Early Retirement

I early retired (@49 yrs old) two weeks ago and have been enjoying the first few weeks of not going to work. I saw this chart 'Phases of Retirement' on Forbes.com and am definitely moving between the 'Celebration' and 'Honeymoon' phases right now. For those of you who have been retired for a...

    First Day of Retirement!!

Congratulations to several of you that took your FIRE Escape on 4/1/16. I too am in that club and have enjoyed the last two weeks immensely. Last week was also my 50th birthday. As far as health insurance goes, we now have private insurance (didn't qualify for ACA subsidies) and am paying...

    Anyone Penalized For Early Notice?

I thought I'd give one more update on this, since a month has passed. Everything has gone SO well. In fact instead of worrying about being penalized, I should have not stressed at all. The last 30 days have been great and my boss has been very supportive - jealous in a good way actually...

    Class of 2016

Just two weeks left for me now and enjoying the first of these on vacation in Florida! I can feel almost 27 years of life in corporate America lifting off my shoulders. Pre retirement jitters.

I had jitters before I announced my intentions to retire, but not now. I just started a week's vacation in Florida (Disney) and will return to the office only to transition a few things the last week of March. On April Fool's Day (appropriately), I will work my last day. I'm 49 now and have...
