    Should I get a QLAC?

I know some annuities have a COLA built in, or at least that’s an option if desired, that’s what we have. We used a portion of our nest egg, so between SS and the annuity it will be a nice check monthly (piece of mind for us!) Will let the remainder of portfolio grow.

    COBRA or Marketplace

I went with Cobra until it ended and then shifted to marketplace. My premiums went up in marketplace and coverage is not as good as Cobra. Check all your doctors and medicines when you are screening marketplace as many of the plans do not cover all.

Do I need to be talked off the RE ledge?

We bought 4 rentals 6 years ago, passively managed with a property manager, and managed the property manager activities as other have said. We had some decent tenants, and one terrible tenant. We sold all 4 this past year, and it was the best investment ever, the market went crazy, my best...

    Have timeshares gotten any better?

We have a timeshare in Myrtle, 3 bed lockoff and have traded into Maui several times, kuwai, st Thomas, Cancun twice, Disney world, and most stays have been 2 weeks in a unit that sleeps 8 and more, kitchen laundry full set up condo, Westin to boot. I think we have been very fortunate. It’s...

    Class of 2021

Well, I gave my notice a month ago and turned everything in this past Friday. I am calling this a semi retirement since I did take on a part time consulting role, working from home. Due to pandemic, I will continue to consult since I can arrange when I put in the time. I will see how it goes...

Social Security options to consider after cancer diagnosis

I am sorry to hear this, I had cancer 7 years ago, now it’s yearly checks, and hoping you have the same. I agree with this approach, my brother in law passed and this is the path my sister took. She is taking her SS until her survivors benefit is maxed out then switching. So in your case your...

Shrinking our huge mortgage for peace of mind

Check to see if your bank will do a recast of the loan. They may charge a small fee, but a recast would allow for a large payment to be made, and they will reset your mortgage payment based on the new principle amount. This would lower your amount owed as well as your monthly payment.

    Considering a "FIXED LIFETIME ANNUITY"

In early January I took a portion of our funds and moved to a cola annuity, thus dropping our risk profile. Right now I’m happy we did. Just another means to decrease risk for us, looking to retire in 2 years and 4 months.

    ROTH Conversion Question

Thanks Sunset, I thought that was the case, the total amount for RMDs would remain relatively the same if converting mine, wife’s or both of ours. However I suppose if I just converted mine, it would lower my RMDs and for the 4 years until wife’s RMDs hit we could pull from her account.

    ROTH Conversion Question

Thanks sengsational, I will spend some time with this to check my plan. As you said we have no idea what’s ahead, I’m hoping the ROTH conversion is still there and I’m already planning with 70% SS as an input, who knows.
