    Plan for Exit 2024

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much on the 2022 results, especially with the heavy cash spend on the house. I'm boldly assuming that project added significant value, so the upside is that negative cash spend absolutely added to your true NW. Additionally, you contributed nearly $150K to your...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

Great question - when I first started aggressively saving and monitoring numbers back in 2013, I targeted 43 for FI and 49 for RE. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I'll be 49 when my daughter finishes high school. However, it really is a moving target. I enjoy my work and find it to be mentally...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

Glad to be back! The AA is aggressive, with the majority in stocks (heavier on U.S. but definitely some international exposure). Analyzing the numbers, it seems I may have just caught right on the edge of contributions + dividends + increased home equity > paper losses. Interestingly enough...

They do. I try to be a bit conservative on that one - factor in interest rate shifts, fees if we chose to sell, etc. I believe the realistic number is around $350-400K, but right now I have $250K in the calculations.

Someone once told me "the days are long, and the years are short." I suppose this is accurate, as I somehow not only missed the 2021 year end review - I missed ALL of 2022. Time to catch up... ================================================== ============ $387,000 Annual Combined Income NET...

Same to you, 2024. Hard to believe how much time has passed since you and I both started tracking our progress. Maybe I'll catch up to you with a big bet on red this weekend...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

I managed to miss another quarterly update, but midpoint of the year will work. The first half of 2021 has been great, and we're green on almost every metric. I paid cash for a new car in Q2, which is throwing off the expenses/savings rate categories, but that's okay. Income is in a great place...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

I try to be optimistic, but I feel like it could be a strange year. Even with the vaccines rolling out, I'm not sure we'll see a return to normal in 2021, and many businesses and industries will continue to suffer. The broader market will react appropriately, and I'd love to see the NW race...

Another year in the books, with a better than expected finish. Here's how the end of 2020 looked, when compared with the end of 2019. ================================================== ============ $281,800 Annual Combined Income - $316,700 NET WORTH END 2014: ~$354,100 NET WORTH END 2015...

    Plan for Exit 2024

Awesome look back and tremendous results. I think most of us would gladly take CAGR's in the teens, especially spread across the whole portfolio. I have no doubts you're going to make it.

Thanks, Exit 2024. Your comments are always appreciated. Feels like even though we have never met, nor spoken, we're on this journey together. Glad to see you're still racing along and down to a paltry 16 quarters!

I believe you're commenting on my original post from 5 years ago, as we have since sold the rental property, but thank you very much for the feedback. I completely agree with your sentiments on taxes and the future. My general philosophy is to control what I can and prepare for what I can't...

So, I missed my Q1 update... can't imagine why. But here we are at the halfway point through the year, and I know I'm not alone in saying it has been an unusual first 6 months! I looked at what I wrote in January, to reflect on how the year has been, so far: 2020 is poised to be one of our...

    Plan for Exit 2024

Congrats on another great year! This kind of planning and dedication puts you in the position where a short or long term job loss is barely a blip on the radar. Imagine telling someone that your wife was laid off for 3 months this year, but you still increased your NW by over $300K? Killer.

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words. We're certainly trying our best to give ourselves the option to FIRE, while enjoying the present. It's really great to hear from others in this forum that have long since reached the goal, especially in a society that generally loves debt and accepts...

Excellent work, as always. I gotta tell you, I admire your attitude. You and your wife really know how to roll with the punches and keep moving towards the goal, and I'm glad you got to go on the trip! Cruising is our absolute favorite way to vacation (just went for a week in September, going...

Q3 update. This is my 5 year anniversary since first posting. It's weird to look back and see the old numbers, thoughts, goals, etc. The good news is, we couldn't be happier with where everything has landed, and we feel completely on track to at least have the option of an early retirement. I...

Not sure how I missed this when you first posted, but I'll answer now. We got out for two reasons: 1) Our tenants asked to purchase the property, and they had been such fantastic tenants and friends over the course of several years, I thought it was only fair to consider it. They presented a...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

Quick quarterly update. Q2 was another amazing quarter. Net worth dipped in May and shot back up almost $50K in June. The two comma club is even a potential stretch goal. Everything is moving in the right direction, and we're green on every metric. It's going to get a bit better, as my wife was...

Great update, and I'm glad to hear your wife landed a new gig. I wouldn't be surprised to see you guys reaching your FI goals before 2024. Is the Europe trip back on the books? :baconflag:

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

This is a good question. Since we rarely use any of the money, I guess I mentally wanted to shift some of it to the taxable accounts, foregoing some of the tax savings for other vehicles. I've also been a bit protective of the funds, treating the HSA as more of a savings account than an IRA. I...
