    Eggs in one basket

Great replies, thanks. Not to be conspiracy theorist, if there is a black swan event, I would assume all of the major houses would limit trades and transfers. So keeping cash in a bank and at home may be the plan.

    Eggs in one basket

I have multiple accounts, pre tax, tax tree, tax deferred accounts with Schwab, there are CD’s and Treasuries. Am I taking a risk with everything within Schwab regardless of government backstops. Should I spread out to Fidelity or elsewhere just in case there is a hack at Schwab and I need money?

Living off dividends = to 0% WR?

You can also sell covered calls and get extra income on top of your dividend. If it’s in a taxable account, Be sure to pick way out of the money calls if you do not want the stock to be called away.

Are you taking care of your elderly parent(s)?

I retired last March but went back in December because I spend every day doing something to help my mother out. I figured why spend money if all you are going to do is sit around waiting for something happen or going to one of many, Dr. Appointments. Why start taking money if you can’t enjoy it.

Big differences between FIRECALC and New Retirement

65% equities. If I didn’t have enough then I wonder why the ending balance is so high it seems odd that success is dying with $1 that even the most optimistic scenarios the balance would be a lot less. I think people may be looking for the easy and reassuring 100% success which can be...

Big differences between FIRECALC and New Retirement

I tried Firecalc and had a 64% chance of my portfolio lasting 30 years with an average balance at the end of $1.7 million. That swing is so large that it makes me think that Firecalc is useless.

    Psychological/Social Aspects of Retirement

I retired last March at 57 and went back in December. I Started getting bored and my mind would not totally disengage. The hardest part is when your friends and family think you had to go back to work. The best part is if BS creeps in then you can re retire at any time.

    Schwab Thomas Partners for retirement

My Schwab advisor offered the advice. I compared, as much as possible, on using VYM and SCHD instead and tinkered with historical data and didn’t see the point in it.

    Monte Carlo simulation

AWSHX is a G&I mutual fund that is the oldest one I am aware of that I used in the Portfolio Visualizer to look at spending/ withdrawal over 35 years. While not an exact copy of the S&P, it is fairly close to model the 4,5,6% withdrawal using actual data. Monte Carlo is not something I would...

    The Cryptocurrency Thread

As I retire in March, I have wondered what the marketplace is for a legit crypto advisory firm. Have your clients asked...

    Living off of margin loans

DO NOT DO IT! My partner did that and died penniless on a $5mil portfolio. ML convinced him to do it. In a downturn you get slaughtered. He took a $250K loan out every January and paid it back by selling the ‘gains’ and repeating each year. Imagine losing 40% of your portfolio and then...
