Your exercise plans for 2021 and how it went in 2020?

I lost 18 lbs over the last year. Averaged 10,000+ steps per day, and got in around 270 workouts throughout the year. Changes in the upcoming year? Shifting from mostly barbell powerlifting to more HIIT and kettlebell workouts. Just want to maintain my current weight (185+/- 2.5) and bodyfat...

    Taxes after last working year....

Freshly retired, last Friday was my retirement date. So I've used H&R Block online for the past 10 years to do my income tax.....have had zero problems, and have been happy with the results. Was wondering if going into retirement, having my highest salaried year, made the most in my retirement...

    Retirement: Day #1

Well I slept in this morning......yup. Got up at 6:11 am. That's a 41 minute bonus on the first freaking day! Who knows, I may even stay in bed 'till 7:00 am before the week is out! ~Marco

    Brand New Day

Well it is done. Last Friday was my last day. Turned off the alarm clock. When I rise in the morning I'll be unemployed for the first time in 40+ years. Kind of a weird feeling. I'm moving on to my new priorities; - Taking care of my invalid wife - Helping local small businesses thrive or...

    Re-introduction

Well it's another countless example of government bureaucratic incompetence. After 41 years of exposure I'm used to it. I'm going to look forward to the back-pay. ~Marco~

    Re-introduction

Howdy all, Marco from Texas here. First registered a few years ago, but have not been active here. I'm just days (6) away from my 2nd retirement, first one was from the military in 2002, and this one as a FERS fed. We've been planning for 2 years now, living on the retirement budget for one...

Which is better for weight loss, diet or exercise?

I'd rather be fat and fit, than thin and sickly. Luckily we don't have to choose between those two! We do have to choose to take responsibility to get moving, and eat healthy, and sadly t seems too few make that choice. Marco

    84 Days out!

After 5 years of planning, the moment is mounting quickly. The retirement desk has my paperwork, and the clock is ticking. I have $650,000 in investments, and will have 2 COLA protected pensions (military/civil service), and have medical care covered by Tricare and VA. We are debt-free (no...

    Tax Savings IRA?

Can someone school me on setting up an IRA for tax savings? I do have a workplace program which I contributed $10k to in 2015. My income is just less than the $118k threshold, and I paid $15k in federal withholdings. Can I still open up an IRA before April 15th to save on my tax bill? I am 50+...

    Cataract Surgery

Finally had my 2nd eye done last week. Had a three month interval between the right eye, and now the left. Surfing the VA's voucher system, and then the Veteran's choice program was no fun. Got it done though and I am thrilled with the results. The IOL technology is great and bound to get...

    Columbia River Bike

Our main focus is the Oregon side. The Full Sail brewery was the genesis of the whole idea. Once I saw the beauty of the area it became clear that we need to take this trip.

    Columbia River Bike

Great tips thanks folks. We're not locked into a format at this point, we may hike rather than bike. We're kind of targeting the last week of May to try and get it in after the worse rains, and before the kids get out of school. We're going during the working week and not over the weekend. Can't...

    Columbia River Bike

Looking to bike/camp along the Columbia river from Portland to The Dalles, and back on the Washington side of the river to Vancouver. Hoping to go sometime late spring or early summer 2016. Have been searching online resources. Any local tips, tricks or secrets?

What was the most UNRELIABLE car you've ever owned?

Brand new 1983 Ford Thunderbird. Loved the looks, the ride, and the performance, but sadly the dadgum thing spent 65% of the time in the shop under warranty repair.

Most Americans have less than $1000 in savings?

I agree that we do not know the methodology that was used.....a small sample size as well. But I have two children in their early 30's, and one is dead broke, the other I'm not sure of, but doubt he has $1000 net worth. Based on my own kids and those of my friends and associates this article got...

Most Americans have less than $1000 in savings?

Scary stuff here! I didn't really wake up and start saving until I was 42, but I already had military retirement locked in. Looks like we are headed to a nation of abject poverty in a decade or two....... Most Americans have less than $1,000 in savings - MarketWatch

Thanks WR2 and N02L84ER. I may work some part time low stress gig during the interval between 56 1/2 and 62, and then again maybe I won't. I've got fish to catch, cars to build, yard work to do and back roads to cruise.
