rule of 55 bridge using brokerage link

Hmm, I didn't know you could rollover part of the 401k, and leave the rest for Rule of 55. I was leaving the whole 401k, take some withdrawals at year end to make it to 59.5, then rolling over the whole thing to Fidelity where all my other IRA's are. I'll have to think about if it is worth the...

Looks like Primis also gives 50 cents for each debit card transaction, no matter how small. Most on here probably won't use the 50 cents per transaction feature, but I know a lot of college students that use Chime for this, and they charge all kinds of fees and don't give any of the transaction...

Do FHLB Bonds Seem Too Good to be True?

After reading, I found this link very helpful for me to expand on the comments here. It seems to answer more specifically some of the OP questions. It also got me looking more closely at these types of bonds. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/bonds/07/agency_bonds.asp Fidelity has a...

    Community College Grads?

I went to the local Community College, right when IT was starting. They were teaching me programming, which I knew I didn't want to do. Nagged the counselor for months(she would try to hide when she saw me coming) for an internship, so I could see other areas of Tech. Finally, two roles came...

    Part time work in retirement

I had recently taken a 4 month Sabbatical, with the intention of retiring at the end(I was guaranteed my job back). But with the stock market down, I thought I would try to get a 50% role for 50% pay. My boss was good with it, but HR repeatedly said no. This is for IT Program/Project...

MJ - I don't know a site to calculate CD vs Treasury with tax implications, but I was searching for the same info and found this on Zack's site: To compare the interest rate from a CD with the rate from a Treasury bond and see if US Treasury bond prices and yields are a good deal, calculate the...

Looking for creative ideas for 1031 exchange in real estate

I agree with most of the comments. If you do check out 1031 Exchanges, I have found these to be good places: www.1031crowdfunding.com - Good for research or a free consult on all the basics. Crowdstreet - For finding investments in short time frame. You can do DST's and there is a regular...

I have Bask Bank. I have done 5-6 withdrawals, and they post the next business day. I have been very happy so far, no issues along the lines you mentioned or at all so far, though only a month.

Bask Bank FDIC online savings is 2.01%. I had moved from Capital One who I had used for many years, but they were staying at 0.3% for existing customers. I moved it all when Bask was 1.6% a month ago, it has now raised twice, they send an email each time!

Part-time Jobs in Retirement in the IT field

I put part time and Remote into Indeed, and there were 28 pages of listings and still going before I stopped. I saw several that were mentoring on IT careers and only 5-15 hours a week, going to check them out.

Paying it Forward - Helping the next generation

A few years ago I researched AARP's program that did personal finance courses. They had a whole curriculum you had to follow, it wasn't freestyle. I just checked on it and it looks like it was put on hold for Covid, but they expect it to come back...

How soon until CD rates reflect the Fed hike of May 4th?

I signed up for a new online savings account today, Baskbank.com. Kiplinger recommended them this month. 1.25% rate for online savings, no limit on amounts, FDIC insured. Planning on moving my one year of expenses from Capital One that has stayed at 0.3% even still today. They went to 0.6%...

    56 Atlanta FIRE Plan review

The numbers thrown around make it hard to understand your situation. -How much do you owe on your house? I only owe $180k, on a 30 year fixed 2.99% mortgage. Made the decision I slept better at night with that $180k in cash and fixed low interest rate mortgage. I know this is like arguing...

So it sounds like it is allowed by the IRS, and some companies might give grief that should get sorted at tax time. It also sounds like I would need to leave my current 401k at my employer after retirement, at least until age 59.5, if I want to make any withdrawals without penalty. I have...

RE Rule of 55 - That is interesting if it is just an IRS thing. I would love it. But I have seen others on this forum say it is specific to the 401k plan, and not all allow it. Does anyone know the answer for sure?

Could someone please explain what is meant by: "Also, you would not be taking full advantage of minimizing LTGC tax rate of 0%." If I sold stocks inside the 401k and then withdrew those funds, wouldn't I owe income tax and not LTGC? Isn't LTGC for assets outside 401ks/IRA's? What am I missing?

    56 Atlanta FIRE Plan review

I like the concept of extending the period of protecting from SORR risks from 2.5 years. If I could get it to 5 years that would get me to 62, and SS. And of course the worst of the SORR risk. I am going to explore ways to do that, or most of it anyways. I did look up the Rule of 55 in my...

Thanks for the SS calculator spreadsheet Militaryman! Great stuff! I put in my info, and it does make a difference. It does appear the online site makes the assumption you will continue your current salary until whatever age you put in for starting to take SS. So in my case it was filling my...

Yeah, I have more than 35 years earnings. So the question for me is if the projection they are using is based off the highest 35 years? Or I saw somewhere that they filled in the years between current year and retirement age with your current earnings each year. Hopefully that is only unless...

Understood. And I have cash in a Stable Value Fund and stocks in brokerage link both inside my 401k also. But if you withdraw the cash in the Stable Value fund from the 401k for spending, it would still be income(and thus taxes and thus less Roth conversions), and your "tax deferred" total...

    56 Atlanta FIRE Plan review

Yeah, my understanding is it depends on the companies plan documents. I was going to research that, but that would be taking from my stock allocation inside my 401k. Maybe I am missing part of your point, but isn't that increasing SORR risk, by selling stock when things are potentially down...
