What to do with those 0% Fixed-rate I-Bonds?

Does anyone know if you can schedule an iBond redemption for a future date? I'm considering a sale for 2/1 but I'll be out of the country without good internet connection. I read (on Google) you can schedule in advance by going to ManageDirects on the TD website and then selecting Redeem...

2023 Year End Deals on H&R Block Tax Software

Thanks for the links. Just picked up the Deluxe + State for the $19. Been using it for 10ish years now and almost always find Newegg the cheapest when the right sale + promo code comes around.

how do you deal with this high humidity in the south?

Ran 5 this morning in Houston with my running group. It was brutal. How I deal with it... get up before the sun, run much slower than normal (1 minute to 1.5 minutes slower pace/mile), carry water and plans route so I can stop to refill water. Why I deal with it... because I can run in...

Are you taking care of your elderly parent(s)?

Not quite the same facts but my 81 MIL just lived with us for about 7 weeks following her knee replacement. She lives about 400 miles from us and is generally 100% self sufficient. However, she had no one to help her through the recovery. We got her through the rough weeks, took her to PT...

    Buying Bonds on Vanguard

Anybody have experience buying individual bonds on Vanguard? Do they have a decent platform for that with good evaluation tools? Other things I should be aware of, good and bad? I'm very comfortable with their MF/ETF platform and although I know many don't like their website and customer...

Not a shining example of brilliance, VWIAX

Isn't that sort of the purpose of investing is to make lots of money resulting in tax payments (assuming its not in a ROTH). I'd much rather pay lots of taxes (meaning I made lots of $) than "count it as a blessing" to get out with a loss.

Estimated fee to be an Executor of an estate

I see this as a few different question. Q1. I spend my money on things like groceries, utilities, medical, etc. for my parents. A1. For things like this I think it completely reasonable to be reimbursed from your parents, assuming they have the funds to reimburse you. Alternatively, if they...

First Roth Conversion, Understanding of Brackets?

Sounds logical. To play with numbers you can go to dinkytown .net and enter your actual information. when you submit it it will give you a report below your input that lays out a lot of tax bracket information. You would enter your conversation amount in the "Taxable IRA distributions" entry...

First Roth Conversion, Understanding of Brackets?

You also have to add the converted amount (assuming no after tax contributions) to your other taxable income and then subtract your standard deduction (or itemized if that is greater than your standard deduction). You'd also have to take into account any other adjustments to taxable income such...

    VHS-to-Digital Conversion

that's what everyone thought with 8mm, betamax, VHS, etc. I'm confident that today's "mp3/4" versions (as well as today's version of computers) will be obsolete one day. I have no idea what will be next but I'm confident our children will be converting our mp3/4's to something else down the road.

    Feeling sad in retirement

I started doing MOW about a year after my retirement. I delivered one day a week and offered to occasionally substitute for drivers who were sick/vacation, etc. After about 6 months I picked up a second day and a year later now doing three days. The deliveries take me about 2 hours door to...

Hi from Israel! Looking for FIRE hobbies

In FIRE it was important for me to not to have to cut my expenses as I knew I'd miss the things I loved to do. I FIRE'd at 51 when I could ensure my pension/SS/savings could support the lifestyle I wanted to continue for the next 40 - 50 years. I'm alway intrigued by people who FIRE and...

I'm a T-Mobile customer and have recently added a T-Mobile app called Scam Shield. Its worked really well at blocking calls on my cell phone and it doesn't even ring on blocked calls. It also shows me how many calls its blocked over the past 30 days and shows me the numbers.

The BEST Roth Conversion Strategy in 2022? | Roth Conversion Timing

While I agree 100% with his theory that using the drawdown methodology is the correct approach there is one problem, when is the correct market drop to trigger the conversion. Since he never said otherwise, I'm assuming his analysis which resulted in the draw down method being above all the...

    New One Today

Some great and funny comments above. Here was my first thought that I avoided putting into my original post. I guess they figured they should take me to dinner before trying to get me to go to "bed" with them.

    New One Today

Like many of us I get invites to "free" dinner's all the time from investment/advisor companies. I've never gone but I know its discussed here on occasion. Well today I open one of those envelopes and its not from an investment company... its from a funeral company for final arrangement...

What is your favourite "Regular" Sipping Liquor - (Neat No Mixers Except Perhaps Ice)

Another tequila vote here. My second would be bourbon/rye in an old fashion or Manhattan BTW, they don't taste like tequila and taste like vanilla and caramel because many/most brands include additives to make them sweet to appeal to the masses. DJ (including their 1942), Cincoro, Casa Azul...

    Forecasting I-Bond earnings

Question about the above calculation. It appears the calculation is assuming the composite rate is paid every 6 months making the annualized rate twice that amount. Seems like every 6 months only 1/2 of the composite rate would be paid. So I guess my question is wether the composite rates...

    2021 Conversion Decision

Again, all correct. Current ratio of IRA/ROTH/taxable is 2/1/6 so there is plenty outside of IRAs to pay the tax on the conversions. Also, estate taxes and tax efficiency for heirs, depending on markets and future law changes, could definitely come into play.

    2021 Conversion Decision

Exchme, So far this is the most complete answer that does not make assumptions to base the response and I appreciate that. Agree, as with 95+% of the questions posted here I did not provide enough information thinking I could keep this simple, but it never is. While I won't get into all the...
