Interesting Article, please read and discuss.

The same thing was said of Japan a few decades back. They made cheap crap that was a poor knockoff of American goods. When they finally reached the quality and innovation level of the US they didn't stagnate because of there was no source of originals to copy, they became the originators and...

Vonage IPO-How Many First Time Investors?

Not a first time investor, but I am a Vonage customer and got an offer to buy shares. I took a quick look at the financials and passed. In this day and age you would think that companies know that they have to least be on a path to profitability instead of falling behind even more.

Poll - Has the Christian Right has destroyed the Republican Party.

Such an animal does not seem to exist, at least on the political stage.

    The Number

I think I could fit very well into $1 billion and suspect that everyone on this board could be likewise. Anyone care to put me to the test? ;D

    The 51'st state?

Actually I believe that there was general support for the move in Texas in part because of continued difficulties with Mexico.  Protecting what Texas considered to be its border became easier with the resources of the US behind it.

The Toilet and The Seat - Let's Do The Math

My wife and I just put the seat AND cover down after use. It's simple and looks a bit nicer. Plus it keeps the pets from playing in the water and making a mess. Problem solved. Next!

    Where are we going?

All this is useless guys. I want to know what the next Microsoft and Dell is now. Who cares what country we'll invade in 2025, they're a dime a dozen! ;D

    Real Tax Simplification Impossible?

I'm just going from memory, but the tax code was greatly simplified in 1986 after some bipartisan effort. The number of loopholes were cut drastically and the number of tax brackets cut in half. It was certainly not nearly as simple as people would like it to be, but it was a step in the right...

    Real Tax Simplification Impossible?

The key being "citizen" and not "citizens". The minute you get a group of people with conflicting views on what's "fair" and what constitutes their no-budge issues we'll end up at best with a different kind of Gordian knot and not real simplification. Heck, look at what was achieved in 1986...

    Bird Flu Redux

A timely news story: http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/10/20/fda.antibacterial.ap/index.html It starts off with:

    Bird Flu Redux

My comments weren't directed at Purell per se, but rather the wide spread near-hysteria with germs from which many companies benefit. Purell may be a fine product, but it also benefits from the mania.

    Bird Flu Redux

I can't stand the current obsession with killing all bacteria, like that is really an option.  What people needs to realize is that "germs" are EVERYWHERE, all of the time.  And of the bacteria that the products kill, 99.99% are perfectly harmless and the other 0.01% could just as easily be...

    Poll: weak hands?

I'm not really changing plans at all, though my foreign exposure is increasing. This is really just a slow move towards what I think it should have been for some time. So really my strategy has been the same for years.

    Charitable donations pre- and post-FI/RE

No one in my family is asking for a dime from you, nor from anyone else.  Unlike many in the area, our family has the means to get their lives back in order.  I don't know of a single one in a public shelter or having received any of the FEMA checks and cards being handed out. I've not lived a...

    Charitable donations pre- and post-FI/RE

Whatever lets you guys sleep at night. Go for it. But don't try and convince me that I should admire your principled stand, because I don't. I'm sure the folks who lost everything, some including their loved ones, appreciate the "charity" you've already shown. Give or don't give. I don't give a...

    The FairTax - gaining steam!

I can also reason that a tax system that actually discourages work and is less discouraging of consumption is not the type of policy that can make a country great. Attempting to require that a new tax system be to the benefit of everyone at all times is requiring a fool's errand. Yes...

    The FairTax - gaining steam!

Tax record keeping for individuals would be ZERO. That is not a "non-issue". It may be a wash for businesses. I run a very small side business and I already collect sales tax for the state of Texas. It's a trivial task compared to my 1040 return!

My God, Your God, or No God...Oh, God...

It's safer to play all the angles, just in case. But according to South Park there is one true religion and only its adherents are to be found in Heaven. They are? The Mormons, much to the chagrin of the other adherents who found out that they had made the "wrong" choice. Sorry, better luck in...

    The FairTax - gaining steam!

I agree that this plan has almost a zero percent change of passage. It's just too radical. But I think the naysayers here are overlooking some of the positives. Some of these points have already been made: 1. The IRS may be replaced by some other bureaucracy, but I don't see any reason why this...

Re: More Photos from Glacier and Waterton Parks.... You guys had better conditions than when we were there. The fires were raging in the area and we had to skip a few areas that we wanted to see. Still managed to do almost everything we wanted though. But there was a smoke haze in many parts of...
