    Medicare Poll

Employer-sponsored Medicare Advantage plan- the good MA plan. The monthly cost is $800 per month plus the $175 per month each for DW and I for Medicare Part B. Includes prescription drugs with no donut hole, a max of $40 for a 90-day supply of non-generic drugs and as little as $1 for a 90-day...

    Death of a spouse...and a different story...

I really like the quote "Women mourn and men replace" and have never heard it before. My first wife died after 31 years of marriage (I was 52) from cancer. I remarried 2 years later and have been married again for 21 1/2 years and counting. My mother died after 27 years of marriage and my...

    CGM - Continuous Glucose Monitor

I am a type 2 diabetic who has been using Libre for over 3 years. It does save me from having to stick my fingers 4 times a day. My Endocrinologist prescribed this Libre CGM and I have an excellent employer-sponsored Medicare Advantage plan that covers my CGM. That means my co-pay for the CGM...

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

Yes, I have been doing this for the last 21 years. I have a spreadsheet that does my estimated federal income tax and it is accurate to within $3 of my actual income tax return. I live in Nevada so NO state income tax. On or around December 1, I make 2 RMDs, the first one for federal income...

I Could Use a New Calculator

I am like you and use an "old-fashioned" calculator. Catiga CD-2775-12 that is powered by solar with a battery backup, 12 digits with the period/decimal point NOT taking any of the digit space. No commas. I think I bought it from Amazon and have been using it for at least 5 years with the...

Hi ... long time lurker ... first time poster to see if we are on track

Based on your post, it seems you are adjusting your annual spending upward for inflation. You MAY want to consider the Go-Go, Slow-Go, and No-go phases of retirement (look it up on Google) to retire earlier than planned and experience an actual reduction of annual spending in your 60s, 70s, and...

    Food Triggered Irregular Heart Rhythm?

Yeah, I understand that you are concerned, worried, etc for not being able to find documentation about some relationship between eating bananas and PACs. Way back in 2010, I had a similar situation. I had a CABG in late 2009 and immediately (4 days) later developed anemia (low RBC, low...

    Medicare Costs?

I agree that company sponsored PPO plans are GREAT! MY DW and I have a company-sponsored PPO plan for Medicare Advantage that is great. Besides the $164.50 per month each for Medicare Plan B we also pay $700.28 a month total for drugs, dental, vision, etc. $600 out-of-pocket limit per...

    Sometimes you need cash.

Me too! I also carry about $300 cash and keep more at home hidden for emergencies. I use cash for tips where there is no credit card purchase involved. Twice in the last 2 days, I used cash for tips- yesterday to my lawn guy to spread fertilizer and today I tipped the delivery guys who...

Poll: Total Income from SS & Pensions (Not Nest Egg or Retirement Withdrawals)

I agree the poll numbers are too low and that over $5,000 is where the majority of poll responders are right now. Those RMD amounts put me over $6,000 per month.

Anyone against sending checks through the mail?

BillPay is not perfect! Almost but not quite. Have not written a check and USPS mailed it in over 10 years but a weird thing happened in early June 2023. One of my bill pay checks was returned to my vendor with the message " Unable to locate account" or UTL for you banker types. My vendor's...

I’ve learned something unpleasant about CPR today

All end of life decisions are personal choice. So on 7/13/2016, I was 68 and I had an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. I was lucky, very lucky that I was at my cardiologist when I arrested. I had 3 cardiologists, 1 PA, several APRNs, several RNs, a bunch of curious MAs and 1 very concerned...

    Withdrawals before RMDs?

I retired at 52, started SEPP at 55 years old, then withdrew as needed from my IRA until RMD started. I am 74 now. I usually can not spend all the RMD amount at this time. I started SS at 62 because I did not expect to live this long. I am an example of GoGO, SlowGO and NoGo spending. I have...

    antibiotics before dental work

Antibiotics and dental work In 2009 I had a 3-vessel CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) and my thoracic surgeon told me to take 2 grams (not milligrams, but grams) before dental cleaning and other dental work. My cardiologist has been prescribing me Amoxicillin since then with no problems. I...

    GFR and Creatinine Levels

I am in the same boat as you. My creatinine level peaked at 2.49 in 2016 and fluctuates between 1.12 and 1.65 since then. My Nephrologist says to monitor my creatinine level and that creatinine levels fluctuate, and that's how the human body works. I am 73 and my GFR is usually in the 50's...

Just filed my Federal tax return

I also use a spreadsheet to estimate my taxes for the last 20 years or so. For my 2019 and 2020 tax years, TurboTax was within 3 dollars of my spreadsheet. For the tax year 2021, TT was off compared to my spreadsheet by 11 dollars an amount that I looked into. TT was correct and my spreadsheet...
