    investing 20% in one stock

Three thoughts come to mind if I would consider something like this: * Can you spread this over more companies? Or even use the IT40 index? * Buy into bond instead of stock? * Why Italy? Since a Shengen visa allows you to live anywhere in the Shenchen area.

    Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

That is correct, supposedly there are ~9000 dealers that can process the rebate but I don't seem to locate any Chevy dealer doing so. I also can't find any directory of accepting dealers.

I am cosidering buying a used Chevy Bolt to get the rebate but since last year my taxes are ~$0 so I won't get the credit if I apply with the tax return. *...

    oil and gas

I am repeating what I just heard on a youtube thingy and the subject is investment in oil and gas through a partnership. I wouldn't know how to find those investments., but apparently 80pct of the initial investment is, for tax purposes, considered a loss on the W2. This seems like a very good...

    VTIAX vs VTMGX

No tax implications. I was looking at the Fidelity fund equivalent (FSPSX) and figured it was performing better than VTIAX. The reason is that it is following the same indes as VTMGX

FMV of house after a death - tax purposes

I think what he meant is that, as a joint tenant, only one half of the house will step-up. I just realized this fact. Here in California there is also a community property option which may not be a interesting to consider.

    VTIAX vs VTMGX

I have owned VTIAX for long time and recently compared with VTMGX. VTMGX is the developped market only option based on the FTSE index. I noticed that VTIAX always have lagged. I am thinking that I should switch to VTMGX, I dont think the non-developped world will suddenly be a better investment...

FMV of house after a death - tax purposes

I am putting together a list of 'what-to-dol' after spouse dies.... Paying for an official appraisal is probably a good idea but will cost $. Does anyone know if the step-up basis of a house can be determined using Zillow or Redfin estimates?

    Thoughts on Inherited IRA Withdrawals

Reading upon then rules, it is _important_ for a spouse NOT to open an inherited IRA but instead roll over the deceased's IRA into his/her own. This avoids the 10 year rule and this applies to Roth IRAs as well.

    cost basis of inherited accounts

Assuming no inheritance tax, the higher the basis the better. How is the basis of non-probate TOD financial accounts such as Vanguard/Fidelity/etc adjusted? Is it on the account transfer date or time-of-death or you can choose a date 6-months passed the death? Other related question: If I...

    Tax Refund in <3 days!

<3 , don't you love that ? :) Just received my IRS refund. Interestingly I received my state refund in 1 day. I even thought this was a mistake of some sort.

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

Same situation here. You might consider doing all consolidations, now, rather than wait for her to deal with it. You are lucky to have a Vanguard location near, there are only Three, to my knowledge (Malvern and Charlotte are the other Two).

non deductible IRA and form 8606

OK. Thank you both. So I don't see ay reason for me not to commingle while in retirement. And, although this case does not apply to me (I rolled-over all my 401ks): Do you know if the calculation of the tax free portion include IRAs+401ks assets combined?

do I still need USAA checking

I started to use the CMA account at Fidelity, and I am pretty happy about how it works. I have to say though, I am a little bit wary about having the investment account at my fingertip when I login to do small cash management activities.

non deductible IRA and form 8606

I found a couple of old threads on this subject but I think the rules may have changed. I was reading that you need to use form 8606 to track basis of a non deductible IRA but that you have to use the total of your IRAs (rollovers etc) to determine the tax free portion. This means that this...

ES taxe numbers, that can't be right

I just submited my tax return for last year and therefore looked into submiting this years ES taxes. I usually use EFTPS but for this year there is a change in login so I decided to use the IRS website route. The website showed me the ES taxes for 2023, and... WHAT? it shows I put $1300 per...

    Too much money in IRA

Yes it gets complicated fast. I am still working on what will be my plan. I noticed: - No matter what (Roth conversions or not), I probably will always land in the same tax bracket as they are drawn today (the 22% one). THis is because of the SS and other taxable income. - Under 65yo, for both...

Can my state taxes really be 6x my federal?

Sidewalk repair is very annoying to me as well. City as easement on your property but will charge you for the repair :) That is a state law, but also a sore subject to everyone. I am aware of complaints that the sidewalk is sometimes degraded by city work and they will still charge you for the...

    Too much money in IRA

Thanks to this thread I drew up a scenario to even out income and avoid the large portfolio draw around age 95. Of course, who knows if I would be around to see this. Anyway, if you look at my chart, with inflation compensated, the additional draw in the early years would be put into Roth...

    Too much money in IRA

One way to minimize RMDs and, taxes, is to take the money as early as possible. So at age 60,start withdrawing using actuarial tables. Past calculations I have made showed you always minimize taxes, even if you reinvest the money in your taxable account. Plus: you get to enjoy your money :)...
