49, and thinking about early retirement

Hi, my name is Sonny, and I'm a newbie here. This is my first post. This internet has got to be the best thing since sliced bread. I'm so happy I GIS'd this forum.

I've been thinking more and more on retiring at 50. I don't really enjoy my job like I did. And the pressure is starting to wear on my shoulders. I've saved enough to live kinda comfortably if I spend it wisely.

I'm kinda scared to actually call it quits. It seems like such a big change. So i'm wondering in a big way... are there others in my shoes out there too ?

Gee.. I have so many thoughts and questions .. but for my first post, I'd just like to keep it simple .. and say Hello to everyone.

Hi sonny! Yep, you betcha, there are LOTS of folks around here who are thinking like you are! In fact, this place is the mother lode of people thinking just like you! Welcome to the board. If/when you feel comfortable to post & share some details of your situation it'll help us to know where you're coming from & where you might be headed, retirement wise. Lots of very knowledgeable people here who can answer most questions you might have.

Welcome, you've come to the right place. Start reading around the forum, especially sections like FIRE AND MONEY, and perhaps LIFE AFTER FIRE, and you will find many people walking your walk.

Later, try sharing a few details and/or asking questions you have. You will find much encouragement and mucho much good advice.

You sound just like me in April of 06, when I found this forum. After reading and crunching #'s - I retired June 30 of 06 at age 49.

I'm another 49 yo that pulled the plug in 2006. Sonny, your post could have been written by me 18 months ago! I posted on this forum, got a TREMENDOUS amount of encouragement and haven't looked back since. If you've got kids, you'll find that the time you can spend with them once you ER is beyond value. I've got a senior in High School, and we've gone on trips looking at colleges, and had tremendous fun. If you're set financially, go for it. You won't regret it! Also, I echo what others have said already. Read through the posts and you'll be amazed how much you learn!
