Are Full Oil Changes Gone Forever?

Ahh yes....Nothing like a good oil thread! Those of us who frequent other sites for our ICE vehicles/toys see threads like this about every week LOL! This one is doing pretty good...7 pages already!
Yep, and opinions are wide and varied on those sites too. Almost a religion to some as to which oils, filters and frequency of change. It's not hard to find those who advocate changing the oil and filters every 3k miles (or less) and with the best oil/filters money can buy. Of course when you have a ~$25k engine under the hood I guess I can see why.

Bygone era of fluids ...

Aja, when one starts the engine and drives it (always at this point assuming synthetic oil) the condensates burn off, the oil is filtered and then it returns to the pan (unless dry sump)

Unless you're one of those people who store a car/RV/motorcycle over the winter and start the engine and let it idle once a week or so thinking they're doing a good thing. Cold engines generate moisture and idling for 15 minutes doesn't get it hot enough so all you're doing is adding moisture to the oil. If you store a vehicle, don't start it periodically. And if you do start it, take it for a long enough drive to get up to temp and burn off moisture.
