Man, Mick Jagger is looking rough. This documentary looks pretty awesome. Maybe they'll put it on Sundance pretty soon. Can't say I have a favorite because there's so so many amazing back up vocalist that don't get the time of day.

Terry Gross did an interview with the director of "20 Feet from Stardom" and Mary Clayton. (link) The audio of the show is there for download. At 3:30 Clayton tells the story of doing the backup vocal for the recording of "Give Me Shelter". In the movie, they isolate the voices of just the backup singers, Mary's take this song is at 07:00. Later in the show a 14YO Mary sings with Bobby Darin. At 19:00, she's singing background for Joe Cocker in Feelin Alright. A good show.

Not in the same class, but I always thought the backup singers in The Babies songs "Every Time I Think of You" and "Isn't it Time" really made them.
